To empower those seeking effective and medically approved treatments for clear, glowing, and youthful skin, Dr. Kagodu decided to document the facts. With her expertise, you can confidently pursue safe, result-proven, and FDA-approved cosmetic treatment options for your skin health.

Myth 1: Botox Makes You Look Paralyzed/ Frozen

Botox (the brand name of the botulinum toxin) is a neurotoxin that temporarily paralyzes/relaxes the muscles that cause wrinkles on your face. However, the science behind Botox is to relax the muscles at the injection point by blocking signals from the nerves in your muscles to your brain, resulting in relaxed muscles that cannot contract, significantly softening wrinkles, and slightly lifting the eyebrows simultaneously. However, many people have misconceptions that Botox can cause restrictive facial movements or they may have limited facial expressions. Fortunately, Botox has a key role in removing the noticeable signs of aging, effectively minimizing static wrinkles, and preventing new ones from developing. With a board-certified, skilled injector you will still be able to see the entire range of facial expressions, including smiling, frowning, and appearing surprising.

Myth 2: Once you start Botox, you cannot stop

Once a patient starts Botox treatment, it stops the aging process because you do not make those expressions causing repetitive movement that helps drive the wrinkles. You can age even better after the Botox treatment because you will learn other movements and not do those movements so much over time. The revision session is required as instructed by your cosmetic surgeon based on your aging and skin anatomy. But if you stop Botox, the aging process will be the same, and now you can learn certain motions that make aging more prominent. Most of our patients who do Botox regularly age well, but even those who stop do just fine, as there is no dependence on the treatment.

Myth 3: Laser hair removal does not work on certain skin tones/ hair colors

After the first laser hair removal treatment, one can expect 10-25% of hair reduction. Most patients require 3-7 treatment sessions to obliterate unwanted hair. After finishing all the required hair removal sessions, most patients do not see any hair growth in treated areas for several months or even years. Regarding certain skin tones and hair colors, laser hair removal treatment works great for light skin and dark-colored hair, but cutting-edge laser technology is perfect for treating all skin types and tones.

Diode laser penetrates deeper under the skin and perfectly removes hair for patients with lighter skin tones, but at the same time, it can be used in coarse and dark skin tones, added Dr. Karishma.

Myth 4: Fat grafting makes people look fat

The fat grafting process involves the transfer of fat from the patient’s body where excess fat accumulation zones, such as thighs, buttocks, lower back, flanks, or abdomen, serve as donor areas, and the recipients are where fat is needed to be transplanted. However, the fat grafting process can perfectly address the facial fat volume loss that indicates aging. A medically approved, natural anti-aging technique that gives natural effects with no side effects. Only a skilled plastic surgeon with ample experience in facial fat grafting can give you the best contouring results. Micro-fat grafting is often performed in conjugation with a facelift, giving total facial rejuvenation. The skin has no significant sagging; fat grafting alone is enough to fulfill the volume loss. To achieve the desired rejuvenation effect, fat must be placed in the areas of deficiencies with appropriate amounts, making the face more youthful. However, fat grafting can make the face look fresher, not fat.
