A derma roller is a handheld device covered in microneedles – ranging in length from 0.25 mm to 1.5m – which is rolled over the skin. This creates tiny punctures on the skin which triggers skin repair, leading to the creation of new collagen. Collagen is the part of the connective tissue that helps in making skin firm, strong, supple, and elastic. Dermaroller can be used to remove acne scars and stretch marks, as well as to treat hair loss.
A topical anaesthetic cream is applied over the skin and allowed to act for about 40 minutes, following which skin is cleaned and the dermaroller is rolled over the scars until pinpoint bleeding is seen.
