The term Plastic Surgery, came from the Greek word “Plastikos” (fit for moulding) in the late 17th century, as a signature for procedures done to fix facial deformities. Plastic Surgeons looked to Sushruta Samhita in the 6th century BC, his most well known contribution to plastic surgery till date– the reconstruction of the nose- called Rhinoplasty/ or the Nose Job these days!!! Other contributions of the Sushruta Samhita towards the practice of plastic surgery include the use of cheek flaps to reconstruct absent ear lobes, the use of wine as anesthesia, and the use of leeches to keep wounds free of blood clots.
