7 Important Questions to Ask Your Revision Rhinoplasty Surgeon in Bangalore

“Although rhinoplasty produces outstanding results, it is wholly dependent on your plastic surgeon how the procedure meets the aesthetic goals; revision rhinoplasty may be needed if a primary nose job is not simply enough to achieve the desired goals!”

Revision rhinoplasty is a highly complex, much more involved procedure, which is performed to correct the deformities or flaws caused by accidental injuries/ trauma or previous surgery. Revision rhinoplasty helps improve both nasal shape and functions. However, it is a more precise and complex plastic surgery procedure that requires an expert plastic surgeon with ample experience in nose job surgery, who is not only qualified but also a surgeon with an extremely artistic sense and talent in secondary rhinoplasty.

Dr. Karishma Kagodu (MS, MCh), a board-certified celebrity surgeon and head of KAesthetics, Indiranagar, Bangalore, noted that the differences between good and poor results in revision rhinoplasty are just 1-2 millimeters, requiring extreme artistic precision from a rhinoplasty surgeon to achieve the patient’s goals realistically. Moreover, a revision rhinoplasty can also help alleviate breathing problems. Since the procedure of revision rhinoplasty requires working with tissues that have already been altered, one must take enough time to R&D when selecting the rhinoplasty surgeon in Bangalore, added RSE (Rhinoplasty Society of Europe) active member, Dr. Karishma Kagodu.

Top 7 Questions One should ask their Revision Rhinoplasty Surgeon

    1. Am I a suitable candidate for revision rhinoplasty?

If you are unhappy with the results of your primary rhinoplasty and still think it needs more correction to meet the aesthetic goals, revision rhinoplasty may be the right decision. On the other hand, if your concern is seeking perfection with unrealistic expectations that do not align with your anatomy or physiological profile, which is something that rhinoplasty cannot achieve. However, you are the right candidate only when you have realistic expectations and achievable goals, and you are ready to accept the inherent limitations of your revision
    rhinoplasty.

    2. Do you have experience performing revision rhinoplasty?

Revision rhinoplasty is a more complex procedure than primary rhinoplasty dueto the involvement of tissue work, which often requires correction of alterednasal anatomy and precise correction to improve scar tissue. The presence of scar tissue may result from a previous rhinoplasty surgery, which can alter the natural aesthetics of the nasal shape, size, and contour and potentially deplete the nasal cartilage, making it more difficult to perform the revision surgery. However, one must be wise and selective when choosing a plastic surgeon. Dr. Karishma Kagodu has expertise in performing revision cases, and she successfully helped several patients achieve their desired, realistic goals. Dr. Karishma is an active member of RSE and regularly participates in hands-on practices and world congress meetings as needed. Dr. Karishma may use the patient’s rib cartilage in case a patient has contracted trauma/ accidental injuries causing the loss of nasal architecture.

    3. Is it my primary surgeon’s fault that I require a revision?

No, it is not often the case, but it can be a reason if your plastic surgeon is not a facial plastic surgeon or lacks the necessary criteria to perform a rhinoplasty surgery. A plastic surgeon must meet the criteria for performing rhinoplasty surgery and understand the aesthetic angle, as well as the required surgical precision, to achieve the aesthetic goals. Moreover, the introductory consultation plays a crucial role in understanding the patient’s concern. Lack of or poor communication between the plastic surgeon and patient during the in- person consultation, unrealistic goals, breathing issues, or poor healing are all factors that may lead to requesting a revision rhinoplasty surgery. Thus, it is inevitable to clear all your doubts during the consultation, and a patient must understand the inherent limitations of the surgery, as every patient is unique in terms of their physiological and anatomical profile.

    4. How long does this procedure typically take?

A revision rhinoplasty is a more complex procedure compared to a primary rhinoplasty. However, taken time to complete the surgery may also increase. Since it is a highly customized operation that may vary from patient to patient, however, the length of the procedure will vary depending on one’s needs and preferences. Revision nose job typically takes 3 to 4 hours to be completed, and in most cases, it takes longer than primary rhinoplasty. Thus, the cost of revision surgery in Bangalore can also be influenced.

    5. Is the recovery painful?

Every surgical procedure carries some discomfort, requiring a healing process followed by post-op measures, as suggested by your plastic surgeon. Since the healing process is part of the overall development of the results, it should not be a cause for concern. Still, each patient heals differently, and as far as pain is concerned, it is generally manageable and often subsides within a week. While many patients report less discomfort than their primary rhinoplasty, for pain- sensitive patients, prescription medication can be suggested.

    6. What risks are associated with revision rhinoplasty?

As far as risks associated with secondary or revision rhinoplasty are concerned, they are similar to those of primary rhinoplasty. Potential discomforts may include bleeding, infection, bruising, swelling, scarring, skin changes, numbness, altered sensation, or delayed healing. The risks can be minimized effectively with the right procedure planning and post-op instructions.

    7. Do patients ever require additional surgery after revision rhinoplasty?

Although it is extremely rare, in some cases, when a patient does not communicate well with their plastic surgeon during the consultation, they may have unrealistic expectations and may request additional surgery. However, it is inevitable to understand the surgical limitations based on your anatomical and physiological profile. Moreover, additional surgery may also be a case of an unsuccessful revision rhinoplasty. Therefore, it is recommended that you choose
your rhinoplasty surgeon wisely. Following in-depth research and visiting various websites will help ensure that your second rhinoplasty is the final
    procedure.

  • 5 FAQs About Liposuction Vs. Fat Transfer

5 FAQs About Liposuction Vs. Fat Transfer

Liposuction Vs. Fat Transfer procedures take a holistic approach to body contouring, as both can be combined to achieve desired body dimensions. These methods are completely safe, risk-free, and result-centric options for enhancing your physique.”

    • Liposuction removes unwanted fat from localized body areas. It works great for contouring the body to help recreate aesthetic proportions, whereas fat transfer involves removing fat to augment the areas that would benefit from more shape and fullness.
    • Liposuction is a one-way procedure, as the target is to extract the unwanted fat using suction technologies from a small tube. In contrast, fat transfer is a two-step procedure where extracted fat is purified and repurposed for injection in a more desirable body area.
    • Liposuction and fat transfer are outpatient procedures used to contour the body figure. Fat transfer utilizes the extracted fat, whereas liposuction solely focuses on fat removal to achieve the desired results.

Body contouring is a vast cosmetic surgery to achieve the desired sculpted figure. Undoubtedly, liposuction or fat removal procedure is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures after breast augmentation. Liposuction surgery is a great way to remove unwanted/ stubborn pockets of fat from localized body areas. Still, it should not be confused with a weight loss alternative, and this is the point to be noted for those seeking liposuction for body contouring goals.

Dr. Karishma Kagodu (MS, MCh) is a board-certified, highly acclaimed cosmetic surgeon known for outstanding liposuction/ body contouring results. In her practice in Bangalore at Kaesthetics, Indiranagar, she offers cutting-edge liposuction techniques, such as VASER high-definition 4D liposuction and advanced fat transfer, to meet the desired contoured goals in the best way possible.

Given the cost, liposuction is a highly individualized procedure, and knowing the cost raises the request for an in-person consultation. The cost of Liposuction in Bangalore cannot be precisely stated, as every patient is unique. Still, the average cost of liposuction may range from ₹60,000 to ₹2,00,000, which may further vary based on several factors, such as the surgeon’s expertise, clinic accreditation, safety and hygiene standards, and the facilities provided by the high-end clinic, as well as postoperative care.

    What is Liposuction Surgery?

Liposuction removes fat from localized body areas, such as the abdomen, flanks, arms, thighs, neck, knees, buttocks, ankles, back, bra rolls, etc., and helps achieve the desired sculpted figure. Liposuction surgery helps meet the desired hourglass profile for women and six-pack/ washboard abs for men. However, liposuction is a medically approved method to respond to unwanted fat deposits that remain despite diet and exercise. One must note that liposuction is not a weight loss alternative but works best in people who have reached their goal weight but are struggling with unwanted fat deposits in one or more localized body areas.

What is Fat transfer/ Fat injection?

Fat transfer involves the process of fat extraction from the areas where it is in excess and followed by purification; the purified fat is injected into the desired body areas. The fat extraction process involves liposuction using suction technologies from a small tube. The purified fat is then injected into the targeted areas, which require volume or shape enhancements, and desired augmentation goals are achieved. Usually, extra or unwanted fat is extracted from areas such as the bra rolls, flanks, waistline, hips, and thighs. On the other hand, the body areas that require shape or appearance enhancements include hollows of the face, cheeks, brow, temples, nasolabial folds, breasts, or buttocks. Fat transfer to the buttocks is known as Brazilian butt lift/ BBL surgery.

    Q. Can a Patient opt for fat injection and liposuction in the same operation?

Yes, a patient can avail the dual benefits of liposuction and fat transfer in the same surgical session, as both procedures are linked to each other, and one procedure benefits the other by providing the required amount of fat to fulfill the contour goals. Liposuction surgery is performed to extract the required amount of fat from the donor areas, followed by the purification step; the filtrate fat is placed/ injected into the targeted areas to help shape the appearance. A plastic surgeon usually eliminates fat from the belly, hips, and thighs, where excess fat is usually deposited. Moreover, it is common to have comprehensive body contouring in one single session with the help of both liposuction and fat transfer. The most common combinations include facelift with nano fat injection, BBL surgery, and body contouring with micro fat injection, and fat injection to the breasts.

    Q. How does a patient know if they are a good candidate for liposuction and fat transfer?

It is inevitable to consult a plastic surgeon to know whether a patient is the right fit for the body contouring surgeries and, if yes, which procedure would best meet the desired goals. If a patient has excess fat in the areas, such as hips, bra rolls, flanks, thighs, or waist, and at the same time they need fat enhancements for buttocks, breasts, or face, combination procedures can be performed. The best examples of comprehensive body contouring are facelifts with fat injection or liposuction with transferring fat to the breasts or buttocks.

    Q. What are the targeted areas to remove fat for fat transfer?

Fat injection requires the patient’s body fat to meet the desired augmentation goals. However, the amount of fat needed to fulfill the desired volume, shape, and dimensions is wholly based on the areas to be augmented. If a patient needs fat to augment the hollow cheeks, lips, undereye bags, brows, temples, or nasolabial folds, nano fat transfer is done, meaning more refined fat is injected using an extra step of liquefication before injection. Fat is usually harvested from the bra roll, flanks, waistline, belly, hips, and thighs. Dr. Karishma Kagodu has specialties in nano fat injection and has successfully performed thousands of surgeries for patients requiring facial contour, lip enhancements, nose job, and facelift surgeries.

    Q. Does liposuction and fat transfer require anesthesia?

Liposuction and fat transfer will require either general or local anesthesia, depending on the extent of the procedure. General anesthesia is administered for larger areas to be augmented; local anesthesia is when it is the case for smaller

    Q. Are liposuction and fat transfer procedures typically performed on an outpatient basis?

Liposuction and fat transfer are both outpatient procedures at an accredited hospital. Once the procedure is complete, one can go home on the same day of surgery. Even though general anesthesia is sometimes used in some cases, it is quite easy and okay to get discharged the same day once the patient feels okay. The patient must arrange for someone to drive them home after discharge. To schedule a one-on-one consultation, call +91 8951269006‬ or +91 7624809006 or WhatsApp at +91 9108969006.

  • Experts Think Instagram’s Face-Taping Trend Is Disastrous For Your Skin: Here’s Why

Experts Think Instagram’s Face-Taping Trend Is Disastrous For Your Skin: Here’s Why

The internet is jam-packed with beauty-related hacks—many of which are (very) questionable. You think you’ve seen it all, and the very next second, you find something that catches you off-guard—because you let your naivety convince that you’re prepared for what’s to come (bad idea).

I saw influencers slapping chunks of tape to their faces (forehead, cheek, and every other part of the face that qualified as tapeable)—explaining that the process diminishes lines and wrinkles—or prevents them from deepening—if committed to overnight. While many dermatologists have contested the safety of this trend, many users have accused influencers of editing their videos to make their end-results appear convincing—and some have gone as far as to claim that these influencers were documenting their ‘before-after’ a week prior to their Botox. And that’s why I roped in Dr. Karishma Kagodu, Plastic Surgeon, Founder & Managing Director, Dr Karishma’s Aesthetics and Dr. Shilpi Bhadani, Plastic & Aesthetic Surgeon, Founder, SB Aesthetics, Gurugram, to tell me a little more about this technique from their P.O.V, and whether any one of us should put it to the test (spoiler-alert: please don’t).

    What is Face-Taping?

According to Dr. Karishma, “Face-taping is a part of the K-beauty regime like any other ritual involved in K-beauty disciplines— face-taping is a conventional technique meant to reduce facial aging by avoiding the movement of your muscles in a controlled manner. Unfortunately—it has no medical or cosmetic base, and it isn’t medically-proven as effective either. As far as the purpose is concerned, it is about achieving a V-shaped face to the asymmetrical face. I don’t think it is helpful because it can lead to the development of wrinkles and lines.”

“You’ll notice a lot of creators tape their face in different directions to ‘control’ ageing, but science suggests that the benefits of this method as an anti-ageing hack is non-existent,” says Dr. Shilpi.

    Is Face-Taping Safe?

“Since the practice of face-taping involves holding your skin down for the night, it can cause more harm than good. It can damage your skin-barrier, and side-effects can manifest as redness, irritation, and acne-related breakouts. I will note that face-taping is not skin-friendly, and this practice has more apparent risks than benefits,” she says. Dr. Shilpi describes this trend as more of a fad that the internet has caught wind of. She gives me a little insight into this technique, “These tapes are widely used in physiotherapy for inhibiting movement across painful (facial) joints, and they have a good success-rate. Even in wound-healing, taping is said to increase blood-supply in the area. Facial Palsy also involves the use of tape—but whether the inclusion of tape is beneficial or not is still being researched.”

    Can Face-Taping Actually Work?

Dr. Karishma explains, “The idea behind face-taping is that the tape can keep your muscles in place while you sleep, and diminish wrinkles and lines. Ironically enough, it can lead to the development of noticeable lines and wrinkles because your muscles are obstructed from doing what they are supposed to. This results in reverse action with obvious, stronger, and prominent signs of ageing. You might also find that you’re allergic to the tape (the material of the tape). That’s a big no-no if you are planning on trying this out. Face-taping can cause other such side-effects—wounds, active infections, irritation in the taped area, and scrunching of the skin are a few.”

According to Dr. Shilpi, ageing occurs at multiple levels. It goes beyond your skin—it’s not superficial as it affects the bones and tissues too. Plastering an area of the face with tape for a couple of hours can make your skin look lifted temporarily; but this technique has no long-term benefits at all. She reiterated Dr. Karishma’s point about the occurrence of reactions to the tape, and explains that pulling your skin with tape results in more damage than benefit, “You’re stretching and pulling your skin, and this is counter-productive since it can lead to laxity of the skin.”

What are some legitimate, safe ways of reducing the appearance of wrinkles and lines?

“The tried, tested, and medically-proven methods are injectable fillers and facelifts, surgical or non-surgical, as you qualify for the candidacy. In addition, sun protection, skincare rituals followed by toner, moisturiser, sunscreen, and serums are non-negotiables. Remember that adding topical skin-preparations to your routine [containing hyaluronic acid, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, or retinols] help the process. Botox is another alternative if you want to diminish age-related signs more healthily. It helps prevent lines, wrinkles, and sagging; and is the best alternative to face-taping. Even radio-frequency lasers are available for non-surgical skin-tightening—proven to be highly safe and effective. And skin-related treatments like Carbon laser, Q Switch Laser, and CO2 lasers are popular treatments for skin-resurfacing and anti-ageing as well,” says Dr. Karishma.

What are some other trends that you’d advise people to not try?

Dr Shilpi says, “Apart from facial-taping, I’d say that even though facial rollers, massages, and yoga make you feel relaxed and rejuvenated to a certain extent, they don’t have as much value. There’s no science-backed evidence that they thin, slim, or lift your face.”

It’s safe to say that this trend isn’t safe to put to the test. While these no-cost hacks might appeal to you, remember that most of them aren’t expert-approved or science-backed. Always consult a dermatologist before experimenting with your skin, and don’t buy into ‘viral’ hacks because someone in a random comment-section claims that ‘it works wonders’ for them.

  • Medical Benefits of a Tummy Tuck Surgery

Medical Benefits of a Tummy Tuck Surgery

“A tummy tuck tightens the midline stomach muscles, restores a weakened core, repositions the belly button, gives the abdomen a flatter and toned look , and addresses excess abdominal skin pooch!”

    • Do you know that results of a tummy tuck can be permanent?
    • Do you know that a tummy tuck can reduce stress urinary incontinence (SUI)?
    • Do you know that a tummy tuck can correct a ventral hernia?
    • Do you know that women typically opt for a tummy tuck after multiple pregnancies as a final mommy makeover procedure?

Many of us are familiar with the cosmetic benefits of tummy tuck surgery or abdominoplasty, but some medical pros may also make you say wow! A tummy tuck, medically known as abdominoplasty, is a plastic surgery procedure that flattens the abdomen by removing excess skin and fat and tightening abdominal muscles to give you a more toned abdominal profile. As far as tummy tuck results are concerned, it can be permanent with proper diet and exercise.

Dr. Karishma Kagodu, MS, M CH., Managing Director of Dr. Karishma Aesthetics, Bangalore, India, noted that tummy tuck surgery is an intense plastic surgery that highly requires remarkable aesthetic sense and surgical precision to meet the desired outcomes. Tummy tuck surgery has medically benefitted by improving the back posture, reducing lower back pain if the abdominal protrusion is very heavy, improves abdominal tone, repairs central umbilical hernia.

What medical concerns are addressed with tummy tuck surgery elaborated below:

    1. Tummy tuck reduces stress urinary incontinence: Stress urinary incontinence is characterized by uncontrolled leakage induced by sudden and forceful action, such as sneezing, laughing, and exercising. SUI is most common for women, especially after giving normal delivery. SUI can also affect men, and so it becomes a serious concern. Research has shown that a tummy tuck reduces the weight on the lower abdomen , thereby relieving some stress can help patients with stress urinary incontinence.
    2. Tummy tuck corrects ventral hernia: Ventral hernia is a condition that occurs when the intestine or intestinal fat protrudes through a weakness or opening in the abdominal wall muscles. Abdomen hernia can happen at the umbilicus (Umbilical hernia) most commonly or in the midline abdomen muscles (Ventral hernia) after multiple pregnancies. This requires medical attention because it causes an unusual midline protrusion followed by pain and discomfort. It is very common to get recommended for a tummy tuck surgery if a patient reports the issue. Tummy tuck surgery significantly reduces the chances of re-occurrence of ventral hernia, as an abdominoplasty strengthens abdominal muscles and repairs the muscles and hernia at the same time. It has the added advantage of dealing with excess lower abdomen skin and fat also.
    3. Tummy tuck decreases back pain: A study published in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery revealed the medical fact that tummy tuck helps reduce back pain. Because tummy tuck surgery restores the weakened core and strengthens abdominal muscles, resulting in much-needed abdominal support that helps alleviate the back pain.
    4. Tummy tuck improves posture: After a tummy tuck surgery, you will notice an improved posture due to the tightened abdominal muscles. Moreover, tummy tuck surgery helps offer more support to the spine, as the muscles in and around your abdomen get strengthened, resulting in improved posture.

  • 6 Surprising Celeb Skincare Trends from the 2025

6 Surprising Celeb Skincare Trends from the 2025

“The 2025 Met Gala was not just about extravagant fashion but also prompted some minimally invasive skin rejuvenation trends that might make their way into your next in-person consultation!”

This year Met Gala theme was “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” which celebrates the creativity, influence, the legacy of monochrome fashion and self- expression. The designers paid tribute to the costume institute, the only department at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City that must raise its budget, and the entire Met Gala event has been an inspiring source of powerful fashion, makeup, and skin prep for many decades. However, certified plastic surgeons approved minimally invasive anti-aging regimens, or cosmetic procedures, like lasers, microneedling, and Morpheus8 RF skin rejuvenation. These procedures ensured your red-carpet glow matches the moment, noted DR. Karishma Kagodu, Managing Director of Kaesthetics, Bangalore.

Undoubtedly, the extravagant fashion sense and outfits were fully displayed at the Met Gala. Still, celebsobsession with skin rejuvenation procedures with minimally invasive techniques that give prompt results has become the point of attention in the media. Here are the top four minimally invasive, skin rejuvenation procedures, clearing that facial aesthetics are becoming as influential as fashion on the red carpet, said Dr. Karishma Kagodu, a celebrity-favorite plastic surgeon in Bangalore.

    Botox & Fillers

Botox and fillers are the most popular, non-surgical skin rejuvenation options that offer numerous benefits for improving the skin’s appearance by diminishing the signs of aging, such as wrinkles and fine lines, improving skin texture, and leading to a smoother appearance.

Botox (botulinum toxin) injections of Botox shots can temporarily relax tense muscles that cause dynamic wrinkles, improving the crow’s feet, frown lines, and forehead wrinkles. Moreover, by preventing muscle contractions, Botox can also slow the formation of new wrinkles and prevent existing ones from deepening. The effect of Botox can last up to 3-4 months, requiring repetitive sessions every 3-6 months to maintain the desired results.

Dermal fillers are injectable substances, such as hyaluronic acids, used to enhance the facial features by restoring volume to the sunken cheeks, rejuvenating facial appearance, and helping improve deep wrinkles, plumping lips, and enhancing cheekbones. The effect of dermal fillers can last anywhere from six months to several years. They are considered safe when administered by an expert, certified professional.

    Chemical peels

Chemical peel is a powerful, gentle option to resurface the skin, causing the outer layer of skin to peel away. The procedure helps improve skin tone, texture, and overall appearance by removing age spots, pigmentation, blotchiness, or discoloration, smooth fine lines and wrinkles, and minimizing acne scars or milder scars from injury or surgery. During the procedure, the certified cosmetic surgeon, a specially trained dermatologist, or aesthetician swabbed or brushed the customized peeling solution onto your skin, leaving the solution for a certain period, causing controlled exfoliation, ultimately revealing youthful, glowing skin. Chemical peeling treatment helps reduce large pores, minimize wrinkles, and reveal newer, firmer skin. Multiple peeling sessions may be required to meet your desired results.

    Morpheus8 RF microneedling treatment

Kim Kardashian loves the Morpheus8 microneedling treatment because it combines micro-needling and radiofrequency energy that penetrates deeper beneath the skin’s subdermal layer, causing fractional resurfacing to stimulate collagen and elastin production. This fractional laser device, Morpheus8, combines the properties and benefits of both micro-needling and RF energy, significantly improving fine lines, wrinkles, skin sagging, and enhancing skin tone, color, texture, and complexion. Moreover, Morpheus8 improves skin aging and contours facial appearance by addressing saggy skin concerns. It activates the body’s natural healing response, resulting in better collagen and elastin production means total skin rejuvenation.

    Laser and Light-Based Treatments

Laser skin resurfacing is pivotal in non-surgical skin rejuvenation, as the beams of intense light target certain areas of your face. The treatment helps remove older, outer layers of your skin, making your skin appear smoother and firmer.

Innovation in light-based treatments includes the following:

Fractional laser: Devices like Fraxel® stimulate collagen while improving skin texture and tone.
IPL (Intense Pulsed Light): IPL treatment helps reduce redness, pigmentation, and signs of aging.

    Microneedling with PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma)

Micro needling is a technique to create micro-injuries in the skin to accelerate the natural healing response, leading to collagen and elastin proliferation. The results are amplified when combined with PRP (platelet-rich plasma), derived from the patient’s blood. Growth factors derived from PRP are combined with serums, containing hyaluronic acids or peptides, giving the multifaceted benefits to skin rejuvenation.

    APTOS Thread Lift

Thread lifts are a minimally invasive alternative to facelifts, lifting and tightening the specific areas of the face and offering customized results for areas like the jawline and cheeks. APTOS thread lift technology is a safe, quick, result-proven, and hassle-free option for those who cannot commit to a few week’s surgical recovery process. Moreover, it yields immediate results that continue to improve over time, as the absorbable threads in the targeted areas help stimulate collagen production for long-term benefits. The results of the APTOS thread lift can last up to 1-3 years.

The cost of thread lifting in Bangalore is typically a budget-friendly decision, often amounting to about one-fourth of the cost applicable in other metropolitan cities, such as New Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, or Chennai. Apart from the number of threads used in the treatment, other factors that may influence the cost include the expertise of the cosmetic surgeon, the specific type of thread used, and the areas of treatment, such as the forehead, jowls, under-eye region, and eyebrows. It is important to note that treating multiple areas will increase the overall cost of the thread-lifting procedure.

  • Botox Injection FAQs: For First-time Botox Patients

Botox Injection FAQs: For First-time Botox Patients

With more than 9 million treatments performed in 2024, Botox is the most popular, FDA-approved, non-surgical, injectable treatment that improves lines and wrinkles and has also been used for decades for medical purposes!”

Botox (botulinum toxin) is a non-surgical, minimally invasive, injectable treatment that plays a significant role in diminishing the noticeable signs of aging while also treating various medical conditions. Botox injections are administered underneath the skin via small needles, which help block the release of neurotransmitters from traveling to the muscles. However, muscle activity is reduced, and repetitive muscle movement gets paused for a certain period, resulting in a smooth out of wrinkles and fine lines. The effect of Botox injection can last up to 3-6 months, requiring repetitive sessions at a certain interval to maintain long-lasting results. Repetitive sessions of Botox injections are crucial to prevent unwanted muscle activity that can cause dynamic wrinkles. However, it does not mean Botox cannot help with static wrinkles; instead, it improves static wrinkles by relaxing the underlying muscles, albeit to some extent.

Besides Botox, dermal fillers may be an ideal solution for treating static wrinkles, particularly when a patient is more interested in a non-surgical approach to address aging skin. Dermal fillers fill in the creases and add volume to improve the sunken cheeks, address hollow areas under the eyes, plump up fine lines, deep folds, and wrinkles, and minimize the appearance of scars.

Are you considering Botox to treat your aging skin but are a first-time user with many questions on your mind? If yes, you have landed on the right page.

Dr. Karishma Kagodu, a board-certified celebrity plastic surgeon and a leading Botox treatment provider in Bangalore, interacts with many first-time patients and encounters several doubts that she believes need to be addressed in one place.

Here are several top FAQs Dr. Karishma Kagodu gets about Botox:

    How does Botox work?

Botox works by blocking the nerve signals needed for facial muscles to contract. Once injected, Botox (neuromodulator) relaxes the facial muscles, which causes expression lines and wrinkles. The injected muscles cannot contract or tense up due to the Botox medicine for a certain period until the effect is sustained. However, touch-up sessions are required to maintain the rejuvenation effect. Typically, the results of Botox can last between 3 to 6 months, depending on the patient’s anatomical and physiological status.

What areas of the face can be treated with Botox?

Botox primarily addresses facial aging concerns by relaxing the facial muscles, effectively improving the appearance of lines and wrinkles in several facial areas. Botox helps treat forehead lines, “11s” (also known as glabellar lines between the eyebrows), crow’s feet, and lip lines and softens the dimpling of the chin. Moreover, Botox injections help alleviate pain from teeth grinding or TMJ, as well as provide a slimming effect for the jaw.

What does a Botox treatment feel like?

Botox is a non-surgical, minimally invasive procedure that can be completed within 15-20 minutes, depending on the concern and the targeted injection sites. However, it is also referred to as a lunchtime procedure, allowing patients to resume their work immediately after the appointment. It is a quick, result- centric procedure that may often be completed in minutes, depending on the targeted sites to be injected and does not require anesthesia or any recovery time. However, your cosmetic surgeon may provide you with recovery tips, which may include avoiding certain activities for a few hours to achieve the desired results with minimal side effects. You can see the initial effect of Botox within a few days, but it may take up to 2 weeks to see the full results.

    Is Botox Painful?

Botox requires an ultra-fine needle, which is injected into the targeted treatment areas. The entire procedure can be completed within a few minutes or may take between 15 and 25 minutes, depending on the desired improvements. However, it is almost a painless procedure, except for the pricking sensation that may be experienced during the injection session. Most often, pain-sensitive patients report a brief period of discomfort, which does not persist once the procedure is complete.

How soon will I see the results?

The initial results of Botox may be visible within 3-5 days, but the full effect typically becomes noticeable after 2 weeks. Even though every patient may have a different time length to experience the results, some may experience them sooner, or some patients should have to wait for about 10-15 days, but, still, the maximum effect of Botox requires up to two weeks to show you the desired improvements.

When should I start getting Botox?

There is no age limit to start using Botox, as many millennials are beginning to use it in their 20s when they first start to notice visible signs of aging. Some patients may opt for Botox treatment in their 30s as a preventive measure once they start noticing fine lines and wrinkles. • What is a Brazilian Butt Lift | BBL Surgery?

What is a Brazilian Butt Lift | BBL Surgery?

What is a Brazilian Butt Lift Surgery?

A Brazilian butt lift or buttock augmentation, scientifically known as Gluteoplasty, is a plastic surgery procedure done for the aesthetic enhancement of the contour of the buttocks. The main purpose of BBL surgery is to offer the aesthetic shape, size, and volume to the buttocks via the process of fat transfer or buttock implants based on the patient’s anatomical status, surgical goal, and realistic expectations.

At Dr. Karishma Aesthetics, Bangalore, Dr. Karishma Kagodu, MS, M CH., a well-known board-certified plastic surgeon in India, uses the technique for fat transfer by harvesting fat from other areas of the body (like abdomen, hips, lower back, thighs,) and injecting it into your buttocks. The other technique is of using Implants to augment the butt region. As a result, BBL surgery gives you a more hourglass-shaped figure with aesthetically enhanced buttocks.

One can have a dual benefit of Brazilian butt lift surgery, one with enhanced buttocks. Second, they get a smaller waist if the fat comes from their abdomen or lower back. Dr. Karishma removes the fat using liposuction. Thus, the unwanted fat is sucked out from localized body areas. After the purification step, it is further transferred to the buttocks.

Who is the right candidate for BBL Surgery?

A Brazilian butt lift can be a good option for you if:

    • You are physically fit and in generally good health.
    • You have extra or localized fat deposits in your body that can be transferred to the buttocks.
    • You want buttock enhancement with a rounder and more aesthetic contour.
    • You are ready to give at least eight weeks of recovery time and can avoid sitting or sleeping on your buttocks for eight weeks after surgery.

Why Should you Choose BBL Surgery?

Following are the top reasons that raise the request for BBL surgery:

    • Flat buttocks
    • Lack of buttocks shape and projection
    • Low butt volume
    • You have undergone significant weight loss and lost buttocks volume and shape
    • After pregnancy/childbirth, your butt lost the aesthetic contour
    • You want a more proportionate butt size.

    The steps of BBL surgery:

    1. Brazilian butt lift surgery involves two steps first, the extraction of fat via liposuction, and second the augmentation/transfer of fat into areas of the buttocks.
    2. Firstly, the fat is extracted from the areas such as the abdomen, hips, lower back, or thighs using the liposuction technique.
    3. A thin tube called a cannula is connected to a vacuum for the extraction.
    4. Next, the extracted fat is prepared/purified for transfer and injected into areas of the buttocks.
    5. In case of Silicone implants – an appropriate butt implant size is chosen after detailed measurements and understanding what you desire. The implant is inserted through a small cut in between your buttock cleft.

BBL surgery with fat leaves the probability for fat regrafting in the near future if a majority of fat cells do not endure.

How Is a Brazilian Butt Lift Different from Buttock Implants?
    • BBL is a common term used for any procedure (implant or fat) done to enhance the buttocks.
    • Buttock implants may carry risks such as capsular contracture, pain, infections, discomforts, and problems with how the implant looks. But, a BBL surgery is a risk-free procedure because fat is extracted from the patient’s body for enhancement.
    • Many may be worries about the possibility of Fat Embolism with fat grafting. With the latest advances in science and sophisticated instrumentation used at Dr Karishma Aesthetics, the incidence of this complication is extremely rare.
    • Buttock implants are good for those patients who do not have enough extra fat in the body to transfer for a successful Brazilian butt lift.

  • How to Achieve Defined Arms with Female VASER

How to Achieve Defined Arms with Female VASER

“Female VASER 4D arm liposuction is an advanced way to eliminate excess fat from the arm areas using ultrasound technology that helps emulsify fat before removal without affecting the surrounding tissues, creating sculpted, contour arms!”

Understanding Female VASER High-Definition Arm Liposuction

Even though flabby arms are a common concern for both men and women, no amount of diet and exercise can help achieve those sleek, toned arms because removing stubborn fat requires cosmetic surgery intervention. But, if you are someone who wants having sexy definition of your arms without bothering about longer downtime, VASER arm liposuction could be your ticket.

Dr. Karishma Kagodu consults patients at Kaesthetics, Indiranagar, Bangalore, and has expertise in the transformative arm contouring technique. She knows that patient’s postop concerns may include the associated discomforts, recovery timeline, realistic goals, visible changes, and achievable outcomes. However, when consulting patients, especially the female ones who want arm sculpting, Dr. Karishma ensures them by guiding everything in detail, including dispelling myths with facts while answering all essential questions.

Yes, it is an ultimate fact that despite maintaining a healthy lifestyle, including a nutritious diet and strenuous exercise, the excess fat deposits in your localized body areas, such as the upper arms, are nonresponsive, and achieving the sculpted, firmer, and toned arms you desire seems like an impossible goal. Thus, cosmetic surgery is the last resort if you want a permanent solution to your unsightly, flabby arms, and the plus is that VASER 4D liposuction is a result- oriented, less-risky procedure, which includes minimal downtime and discomfort. Regardless of the number of bicep curls or triceps dips you do; your point of attention should involve scheduling a one-to-one consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon.

VASER High-Definition Arm Liposuction procedure at a glance:

The procedure begins with administering the tumescent fluid into the treatment areas to numb the tissues, which helps prepare targeted fat for a hassle-free extraction and minimizes postop discomforts of bleeding and swelling. Furthermore, ultrasound wave energy is introduced for easy fat removal, which means fat cells are broken into a liquid state before extraction. The VASER 4D technique is safe because surrounding connective tissues, blood vessels, and nerves are wholly preserved during the procedure, as a liquid state of fat removal does not affect the surrounding tissues, making the procedure completely safe.

Finally, the liquified fat is suctioned through small, strategically placed incisions, resulting in less scarring, minimal bleeding, and shorter downtime.

The most important characteristics of VASER 4D high-definition liposuction are its benefits of skin tightening to some extent, as the ultrasound energy used in VASER can stimulate collagen and elastin production, contributing to skin elasticity and firmness. However, a patient can achieve a defined, sculpted result with a toned and firmer appearance in the treated areas. Moreover, VASER’s more précised and gentle nature specifically targets fat cells, minimizing the risks of irregularities or dimpling in the skin, resulting in a smoother and sculpted appearance.

Exploring the Benefits: Why Opt for High-Definition Arm Contouring?

    1. More sculpted results: VASER 4D high-definition liposuction, especially for arm contouring, is the best because it combines efficacy and precision and selectively targets the fat cells, refining the shape and tone of arms. The achievable results with VASER can be perfectly aligned with the natural musculature of the arm while enhancing its aesthetic appeal.
    2. Highly desirable for patients seeking detailed and refined body contouring: Unlike conventional liposuction techniques that work on manual suction and mechanical forces, VASER uses high-frequency ultrasound energy to liquefy fat cells before removal, while preserving the surrounding tissues. However, VASER can help reduce trauma to the treated areas, resulting in faster recovery, minimal downtime with less post-operative swelling, bleeding, and bruising. Dr. Karishma Kagodu meticulously sculpts areas with small, stubborn fat deposits, i.e., the upper arms, for a more refined and unmatched aesthetic effect.
    3. Stimulates collagen production and promotes skin tightening: VASER lipo is the perfect choice for women who want to enhance their arm contour while maintaining smooth skin texture. The technique helps enhance collagen and elastin production for a moderate skin tightening effect, and simultaneously decreases the likelihood of skin irregularities post-procedure.
    4. Minimal downtime and faster recovery: Since the technique is advanced, utilizing the ultrasound wave energy to disrupt the fat cells before removal, the extraction procedure gets easier with fewer side effects or postop discomforts. The minimally invasive nature of VASER 4D liposuction has a shorter recovery timeline than traditional methods, and patients often experience less bruising, bleeding, swelling, and other
discomforts, resulting in a speedy recovery.

Who is the Ideal Candidate for Female VASER Arm Liposuction?
    • Women who struggle with localized fat deposits in their upper arm areas.
    • Physically healthy individuals close to their ideal weight and committed to maintaining their weight stability.
    • Women must have good skin elasticity, as women with firm, elastic skin are more likely to experience smooth, natural-looking results.
    • Women who want more subtle, natural results rather than overly dramatic changes.
    • Non-smoker or one who can abstain for a few months pre- and post- surgery.
    • The candidate must have realistic expectations about the results and understand that the procedure helps achieve a contoured arm but does not address overall weight or obesity.

  • Top 7 FAQs about Labiaplasty | Vaginal Rejuvenation | Labia Reduction Surgery

Top 7 FAQs about Labiaplasty | Vaginal Rejuvenation | Labia Reduction Surgery

“Women opt for labiaplasty to address feminine discomforts and noticeable LAXITY and change in appearance of their external genitalia!”

    • Do you hesitate to wear swimsuits and jeans due to the increased size of your labia minora or a very flat labia majora?
    • Do you feel discomfort during gym or strenuous physical activities?
    • Are you worried about the abnormal shape of your private part?
    • Have you faced issues while urinating and the urine stream getting bifurcated because of lax or large labia minora folds?

Labiaplasty surgery comes under cosmetic genital rejuvenation, which helps address the concerns associated with female genitalia. Labia minora reduction, or labiaplasty, is a plastic surgery procedure to treat excess skin and tissue that causes feminine discomfort.

Talking about female genitalia is not a taboo anymore in our society. Women are interested in achieving a youthful vaginal appearance that helps them overcome psychological and physical discomforts, says Dr. Karishma Kagodu, MS, M CH., a well-known name in the Indian plastic cosmetic surgery fraternity.

Read on as Dr. Karishma Kagodu sets the record straight on labiaplasty or vaginal rejuvenation by answering frequently asked questions.

Q 1. Why is Labiaplasty performed?

Labiaplasty is performed to address excess skin and tissue near the inner labia. It is primarily performed to shape the labia minora and helps achieve a youthful appearance. Labiaplasty surgery also helps reduce underwear friction, rashes, chafing, or skin irritation associated with elongated labia. It prevents the difficulty while passing urine. Many women face shrinkage of labia majora and elongation of the minora while ageing and menopause. Plumper looking labia majora (a sign of youthfulness) is achieved with fat injections. Sometimes one may need labia majora reduction too.

Q 2. What causes a woman to have large, oversized labia?

The shape of the labia gets changed/altered due to aging, childbirth, puberty, sexual intercourse, or genetic reasons. Hormone fluctuations also play a vital role in changing the shape or size of labia. Puberty leads to labia majora and minora enlargement; on the other hand, menopause can cause thinning of labia majora and elongation and laxity of labia minora and clitoris.

Q 3. Is labiaplasty medically necessary?

Even though labiaplasty is an elective cosmetic procedure, it has several medical benefits as well. Dr. Karishma Kagodu, a board-certified plastic surgeon, says it’s considered medically necessary if your labia minora is causing your discomfot. Few women are hasseled while wearing tight clothing, discomfort while carrying out physical activity like biking/ horse riding, among others.

Most of our patients also got relief from UTI (urinary tract infection) with labiaplasty because reducing the size of labia minora helps improve the shape of the vulva (inner lips and outer lips) and makes the chance of irritation and infection in clothes less of a possibility. Elongated labia minora interferes with the normal urine stream flow, which can be corrected with doing a simple labiaplasty under local anesthesia.

Q 4. How common is labiaplasty surgery?

Labiaplasty surgery is getting popular in India day by day. A report by ASPS (American Society of aesthetic plastic surgeons) revealed that around 10,000 labiaplasty procedures are performed yearly.

Q 5. How long does labiaplasty take and how is it performed?

Labia reduction surgery takes around an hour to perform and is done under local anesthesia. Dr. Karishma Kagodu uses the Co2 laser to perform the Laser Labiaplasty. Patients just have to keep the area clean and dry.

Q 6. How is the recovery after Labiaplasty?

Laser labiaplasty makes the procedure simple, faster and bloodless. The post procedure downtime is around 4-5days. A special intimate vaginal wash is provided. Wear loose cotton underwear during first 10days and no extreme sport /physical activity/ or sexual intercourse during the first few weeks. If additional procedures like hymenoplasty or labia majora treatments have been done, then the downtime could be a little longer.

    Q 7. Do I need a clitoral hood reduction?

Laser hood reduction is commonly done when there is excess skin around the clitoris making it protrude like a penis. It is important to discuss this with an expert to be able to figure a surgical plan, which also depends on your needs. Removing a little skin on the top of the clitoris can enhance sexual pleasure during intercourse.

  • Can Eyebrow Transplant Be That Celeb-Approved Upgrade You’re Looking For?

Can Eyebrow Transplant Be That Celeb-Approved Upgrade You’re Looking For?

While Doja Cat shaved off her eyebrows on Instagram, and Ariana has dyed hers beach-blonde many cannot even fathom plucking their razor-thin sets anymore. Not a lot of us are genetically well-endowed with Zendaya-esque eyebrows, and options like microblading don’t guarantee long-lasting results. Enter an expert-approved alternative that many celebrities are opting for these days: eyebrow transplants. It’s exactly what it sounds like — planting hair into the skin of your brows in the simplest of terms to achieve a natural-looking finish. This surgery can transform your brows radically — taking them from inconspicuous strips of hair sitting atop the eyes to fuller, lush, Cara Delevingne-like brows.

Chrissy Teigen has documented her experience with the procedure on Instagram. The mother of two did attest to the satisfactory end results of the transplant and claimed that she loved it, but she did mention that the hair on her brows was growing faster than expected. This is because of the difference in texture between the hair growing on your head and eyebrows. You can check out her before and after pictures on the internet — they’re a surprise. But if fluffy, natural-looking brows are your end goal, you might want to learn a little about this underrated procedure. I’ve roped in Dr Karishma Kagodu, Plastic Surgeon, Founder, and Managing Director of Dr Karishma’s Aesthetics (Kaesthetics) and Dr Shilpi Bhadani, Plastic & Aesthetic Surgeon, Founder of SB Aesthetics, Gurugram to weigh in with their opinions on the subject. Ahead — find out whether this procedure is for you or not.

What is an ‘eyebrow transplant’, and how does it work?

Dr Karishma breaks down the entire process for me effortlessly, “This transplant is a much more tedious, lengthy, and sophisticated task than a typical hair transplant, but the execution of both procedures is the same — except for the type of grafts/follicles we use for the brow-area implant.”

She continues to add, “Eyebrow transplants fill the hair gaps in the brow areas and reposition the eyebrows with an aesthetic ‘fullness’. The grafts/follicles are extracted from the head or hair above your ears, and transplanted to the brows following an FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) or FUT (Follicular Unit Transplant)”

Before we go on — FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) or FUT (Follicular Unit Transplantation) are a little different from each other. The former involves extracting hair from your scalp and transferring to to another region that lacks hair while the latter works by removing a strip of skin from the scalp containing hair. This strip is dissected into grafts or sections, and these grafts are planted into the skin of the brow. Both are effective, and you can learn more about them by talking to your surgeon.

She continues, “These transplants are a permanent solution for thinner brows that aren’t as visible as you’d like them to be. A patient can see the regrowth of their eyebrows between four to six months following the transplant, but one must note that the initial grafted hair will shed off to regrow permanent hair following the procedure. That explains why you’ll notice outcomes at around ten months. The entire procedure may take about 2-3 hours to be performed by a board-certified plastic surgeon with the transfer of your own hair.”

Dr Shilpi explains how the process is conducted, “This procedure can be performed on both males and females resulting in a lifetime solution as your hair continues to grow naturally. It’s simple. First — you start off by planning and determining what the Recipient and Donor areas are. The former is your eyebrow in this case, and the latter is from the back of the scalp which is shaved and prepared before surgery. Both these sites are anaesthetised with local anaesthesia. Slits are made in the deficient areas of the brow, and the grafts are harvested as per the requirement via the FUE method — two or three root-bearing grafts are converted into single root-bearing grafts, and only single root-bearing grafts are transplanted into the eyebrows. For patients who opt for both hair and eyebrow transplants, and we have a thinly-distributed donor area, I often go with the FUT method; but in cases where only the eyebrow needs correction, FUT is not recommended.”

Who should opt for such a procedure — and who shouldn’t?

Dr Shilpi says, “People who are not satisfied with the shape of their eyebrows, or those who suffer from overplucked or reduced eyebrows — which is particularly seen in patients of Post Burn or Post Traumatic Correction — can opt for this procedure. But those diagnosed with alopecia areata, trichotillomania, bleeding problems or a history of cosmetic surgery-related problems are not particularly well-suited for this treatment.”

How does it compare to microblading and microshading?

“This transplant is a natural, safe, and result-centric procedure that endows you with a natural-looking finish and feel. It is performed skillfully, meticulously, and artistically,” says Dr Karishma.

Dr Karishma and Dr Shilpi explain the difference between the transplant and other methods. They agree that a more natural-looking brow with genuine hair is what an eyebrow transplant aims for. But it does differ from other temporary options like microblading and microshading. Microblading is a semi-permanent technique in which pigment is deposited under the skin in fine, short, hair-like strokes using a hand tool equipped with a blade of tiny needles. Microblading requires touch-ups once or twice a year. Microshading is a type of cosmetic tattoo procedure. It’s like semi-permanent makeup on your eyebrows. It requires pigment ink and a handheld tool to place tiny, pin-like dots over the brow area to fill in thin spots.

    What’s after-care and maintenance like?

Don’t worry  maintaining your brows isn’t tricky or time-consuming, “This downtime for this procedure is minimal, and most patients recover fully after a day or two. You might notice minor scabbing within the first ten days, and you’re advised to not scratch the scabs to achieve a smoother recovery. And, after a few weeks, the newly-transplanted grafts will fall out, indicating a regrowth of new hair roots following the restoration procedure. Visible results will be seen between months three and four, and the final outcomes will take around six months to a year. But you need to follow some post-op measures like avoiding vigorous exercise for up to three weeks following your surgery,” says Dr Karishma.

Dr Shilpi talks about post-care a couple of days after surgery, “There is minimal swelling and pain post-procedure. Dressing placed post-procedure on the donor site is removed after 36-48 hours of the transplant, and both the recipient and donor areas are evaluated. An antibiotic ointment is placed on the donor area/s, and we generally recommend keeping the transplanted area hydrated with the use of a hydrating spray or saline. We perform gentle shampooing on the fifth postoperative day and ask the patient to do the same twice every week. This helps in the removal of scabs and enables effective healing of the graft. During the shedding phase, which continues for up to 3 months post-transplant, the grafts will start falling out, and roots will begin to appear gradually.”

What’s the (approximate) cost for this procedure?

According to Dr Karishma, it’s not possible to quote a price for such procedures, “The cost of an eyebrow transplant depends on various factors. The cost varies for every patient since it is a tailor-made procedure, and depends on the customised attention given to each individual. Some direct factors that influence the cost of eyebrow transplants are the applied method; the number of grafts being transplanted; the desired volume; and the personal goal-set. But the average cost for a transplant is about four times cheaper than a typical hair transplant, and in Bangalore, it can cost as little as a few thousand rupees.”

Dr Shilpi concurs, “The cost depends upon the number of grafts, and varies from patient to patient. At our centre, it starts from INR 40,000, and may go up to INR 65,000.”

Are there any risks associated with the transplant?

Dr Karishma reassures me that there are no such risks or problems associated with an eyebrow transplant. It’s just that you might end up with brows that don’t look as natural as you might have wanted them to  but as long as you’ve chosen a good surgeon, this isn’t likely to happen, “Extracting grafts/follicles matched to the hair on the brow is tedious, and grafting the same in the recipient areas requires extreme perfection, artistic skills, and expertise. But choosing an expert surgeon helps you achieve the best results with minimal downtime, discomfort, or dissatisfaction.”

“But beware of these common side-effects,” says Dr Shilpi:

    • Nerve damage
    • Bruising
    • Swelling
    • Excessive bleeding
    • Scarring infection

“Bruising and swelling are categorised as the most common side effects, but these are regular in occurrence in almost all cases of transplants. Studies also suggest that there have been cases of nerve damage, excessive bleeding, and scarring and infection,” she elaborates.

Keep in mind that since the hair is picked from the head, it will grow faster than normal.

If someone’s not happy with the end result, are revisions possible?

If you are unsatisfied with the end results, Dr Karishma confirms that a revision via FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) or FUT (Follicular Unit Transplantation) is possible.

Are there other alternatives to achieve a similar look?

Dr Karishma explains to me that alternatives like microblading and microshading exist; but none can deliver the results that this procedure can, “Both these options are semi-permanent methods and require revision.” But the transplant endows your brows with the most permanent and natural-looking finish and feel that cannot be compared to any temporary options available.

Make sure you’re discussing everything with your surgeon and weighing the pros and cons of the procedure before arriving at a decision — remember that an eyebrow transplant is almost permanent.
