  • Frequently Asked Questions About Double Chin Removal Surgery

Frequently Asked Questions About Double Chin Removal Surgery

    • Did you know apart from weight gain, family history also contributes to a double chin appearance?
    • Did you know the decreased collagen and elastin production causes saggy skin, including the skin under your jaw?
    • Did you know the process of ageing also overtime leads to double chin fat accumulation?
    • Are you also one of them feeling awkward due to a double chin and have endured casual comments about the condition in front of others?

A double chin or turkey neck is a condition of submental fat deposition, causing an extra layer of fatty tissue under the lower jaw. This common condition can make you conscious and low self-esteem while taking selfies or dealing in public, a treatable condition with double chin removal surgery. The fat pockets under the lower jaw pose no health risk but require cosmetic attention to harmonize your facial appearance.

Thanks to the plastic cosmetic surgery world and our board-certified double chin expert, Dr. Karishma Kagodu, MS, M CH., head of Kaesthetics in Bangalore, there is now no dreadful situation for you if you are dealing with a turkey neck appearance.

Many people turned to double chin removal surgery in Bangalore and across the country, raising the request for answers to the most frequently asked questions.

Here is what you need to know about the double chin removal surgery and your options for addressing it:

    Q. What Causes a Double Chin?

While weight gain is a common cause of double chin appearance, several other factors, such as genetics, aging, posture, and bone structure, are also at play. One must know that a recessed jaw, weak bone structure, loose skin, or losing youthful facial contour due to aging can contribute to a double chin. One may have a family history of double chin.

    Q. What Are Double Chin Surgeries?

The procedures that address double chin include liposuction and neck lift. But, the exact course of action depends on the patient’s needs and surgical goal:

    1. Liposuction extracts stubborn fat deposits beneath the skin with a tiny cannula.
    2. The neck lift is performed to tighten and remove the skin from the neck. A neck lift must be customized based on each patient’s specific needs.
    3. If you are experiencing a double chin problem, it will be a prominent issue to have some extra, saggy skin beneath the chin from the effect of aging or weight loss, raising the request for neck lift surgery.

    Q. What is Double Chin Surgery Recovery Like?

If you are doing a Liposuction of the double chin, then it is a day care procedure and you can go home the same day. You will leave wearing a compression neck garment. You can resume your daily activities by 2nd -3rd day. Swelling and bruising will be obvious for the first 2weeks atleast. But you can cover the neck area with a shawl and go out. Every patient heals differently based on their anatomical and physiological profile. After the procedure, you will have some discomforts like pain, swelling, bruising, and skin tightness in treated areas, and all these post-op effects get better over time and last about two weeks. In addition, incisions may take several months to heal properly.

In case of a neck lift, the recovery will take 2-3weeks. You will have to wear that compression garment for 1month.

    Q. Who is a Suitable Candidate for Double Chin Surgery?

The ideal candidate for double chin removal surgery is physically healthy and has an ideal, stable weight, as chin reduction surgery is not recommended for obese people. Liposuction surgery allows the removal of fat from beneath the skin, but obese people have a layer of deep fat that liposuction cannot remove. The patients concerned with localized fat deposits under the chin areas that caused disproportion in their body and face areas are ideal candidates if they have a healthy weight and medical state, firm skin elasticity, and good muscle tone.

    Q. Can the double chin be removed permanently?

Yes, you will get the permanent results of a double chin removal surgery because fat cells do not increase in numbers in the treated areas but may increase in size. However, you must maintain a healthy lifestyle following post-procedure. Moreover, the modern liposuction technique destroys fat cells permanently, so fat cells do not grow back in the treated areas after liposuction. The added advantage of new age liposuction technology (VASER- Ultrasound Lipo) is that you will also achieve good skin tightening. The only thing you must do is maintain the results with a healthy diet and exercise. Following the post-op measures suggested by your plastic surgeon is the key to recovering faster and maintaining a long-lasting effect.

Many persons who have very lax skin and do not want a Neck lift surgery, Liposuction itself gives good skin tightening. Any residual skin laxity can be treated with Radiofrequency lasers like the morpheus8 and forma by inmode 3-4months post surgery. These lasers achive good and long lasting skin tightening.

  • Eyebrow Hair Restoration in Bangalore at DR. Karishma Aesthetics

Eyebrow Hair Restoration in Bangalore at DR. Karishma Aesthetics

    • Did you know thinning or damaged eyebrows can be restored naturally with retaining the realistic touch and effect?
    • Did you know hair transplants are not just limited to the scalp, and treating bald eyebrows is all possible?
    • Did you know eyebrow hair restoration can be best done with single hair follicle grafts extracted by the FUE method?
    • Did you know meeting aesthetic results for eyebrow restoration requires 70-120 grafts?

Many of us have concerns regarding thinning or sparse eyebrows or bald eyebrows. A few different reasons may be responsible for causing eyebrows hair loss, including genetics, trauma, accidental injuries, lifestyle changes, or the natural ageing process. However, hair restoration surgery is prevalent among those who want natural, thicker, fuller, and sexier eyebrows with a long-lasting effect. Eyebrow hair transplants in Bangalore are in demand due to the thicker eyebrows trend. Moreover, most fashion bloggers and cine celebrities are heading to Dr. Karishma Aesthetics to log on to the latest style trends, including thick brows.

Dr. Karishma Kagodu, MS, MCH, prides herself on listening to patients patiently who seek a youthful rejuvenation in their look or appearance. Dr. Karishma offers a revolutionary eyebrow hair transplant method, also called FUE, an abbreviation of follicular unit extraction is compatible with extracting single follicle grafts to meet the desired aesthetic outcomes.

    What are Eyebrows Hair transplants?

Eyebrows hair transplants are a method of transferring the hair roots from safe donor areas, such as occipital or parietal areas of the scalp, to implanting them into the recipient zone, using either FUT or FUE technique, to obtain the viable grafts to meet the purpose of thicker, fuller brows.

Furthermore, the harvested grafts are implanted into the recipient areas to recreate the eyebrows to mimic the natural brows hairs as much as possible.

Dr. Karishma and her team can entirely recreate the natural eyebrows using donor hair, and the procedure is termed eyebrow hair transplants/implants or eyebrow restoration.

Eyebrow Hair transplants using FUE Technique:

FUE or follicular unit extraction is a sutureless method of hair restoration that involves special micro punches (with 0.7-0.8 diameter) in order to obtain single follicle grafts. The targeted areas for hair extraction are safe donor zone, i.e., the back and sides of the scalp, as these areas’ hair roots are DHT-resistant and destined to remain permanent. Further, the extracted grafts are dissected under high-magnification microscopes to obtain the single follicular units. After this, the viable, dissected grafts are implanted into the areas where hair growth is required. However, you naturally achieve a fuller, thicker brow, and the results will be immediately visible with newly transplanted hairs. And the noticeable good results may take a few months to be fully visible.

Extreme expertise, aesthetic sense, and precision are required to perform the job:

Eyebrow hair transplants are a micro-surgical procedure that involves utmost precision, care, the delicacy of the performance, and aesthetic sense on the part of the plastic surgeon to meet the desired aesthetic outcomes.

The aesthetic sense and surgical precisions allow a plastic surgeon to implant the grafts in a proper angle and direction to mimic natural growth. It is the surgery of an exact angle, as even an odd inclination can cause an unnatural effect. However, only expert plastic surgeon with ample experience in hair transplant procedure is allowed to perform eyebrow restoration surgery.

    Are the Results Permanent?

Eyebrow hair restoration surgery gives you a permanent result, as transplanted hair behaves like natural hair and adopts the DHT-resistivity of donor hair roots, a big plus of hair restoration surgery. The DHT-resistant hair roots never fall off; however, the results are lifelong. The implanted hair will gradually acquire the same behavior and direction as the pre-existing hairs following the initial periodic trimming in order to maintain the correct length.

How Much does it Cost for an Eyebrow Transplant?

The cost of eyebrow hair restoration can’t be stated in a straight way, as many other factors are responsible for putting the final price. As every patient is unique, the need and desired goal would vary based on one’s physiological and anatomical status, problem status, and desired outcomes. The cost-influencing factors for eyebrow hair transplants include the required number of grafts, the applied method, the expertise of the surgeon, and the accreditation of the clinic/centre. But, an approximate price for an eyebrow hair transplant in Bangalore is between 50,000 to 120,000 INR/.

  • Why Should You Limit Sun Exposure After a Facelift?

Why Should You Limit Sun Exposure After a Facelift?

    • Did you know shielding your skin after a facelift surgery helps safeguard the improvements for the long term?
    • Did you know the risk of swelling and scarring is high if you expose your face to the sun’s ultraviolet rays during the facelift recovery period?
    • Remember to wear a visor or a wide-brimmed hat while going out during the recovery period!
    • Do you know ‘not to forget’ things in your handbag are scarves, sunglasses, sunscreen, and a hat, too soon after a facelift?

Facelift surgery is a highly customized, costly, and result-centric procedure to address the most complex static aging concerns requiring highly attentive post-op care to enjoy long-lasting results. A facelift procedure is a solid way to rejuvenate your looks, performed by surgical or non-surgical methods. But, when your concerns are more complex static wrinkles, and the affected areas are cheeks, nose, mouth, jawline, or neck, the surgical method is recommended to give you the desired transformation.

Dr. Karishma Kagodu, MS, M CH., a board-certified plastic cosmetic surgeon with practices in Indiranagar and Whitefield, Bangalore, operated on thousands of patients seeking facelift surgery with the desired successful outcomes. In her practice at Kaesthetics and Kinder Women’s Hospital, she offers all aspects of facial aesthetic surgery, and the prime inclusion is surgical and non-surgical facelift procedures.

Some of the most common procedures Dr. Karishma Kagodu offers at her practice include:

Those mentioned facial aesthetic procedures can be performed alone or in conjugation with one another to produce the best-desired outcomes. However, scheduling your initial consultation with Dr. Karishma is inevitable so that our plastic surgeon can help you determine which set of procedures can meet your realistic goal and desired expectations.

Suppose you have had a facelift surgery and are waiting to heal. In that case, it is inevitable to limit sun exposure directly to your face and avoid going out without sunglasses, scarves, and hats. The sun’s ultraviolet radiations can cause compromised healing and distort the result. However, it is mandatory to follow the post-surgery guidelines to reap the utmost benefits of your facelift investment.

During facelift surgery, board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Karishma Kagodu will make incisions on the sides of the face that begin at the temple in the hairline, crosses in front of the ear, and ends behind the ear. The underlying facial tissues are separated from the skin and tightened vertically. Furthermore, the excess skin is then trimmed along the incisions to create a taut. However, the procedure entails recovery guidelines that safeguard the improvements for the long term.

Let’s look at some post-op safety measures:

    1. Avoid sun exposure for two weeks after surgery.

After your facelift surgery, it is the first instruction to follow the shielding measures for about two weeks to avoid the risks of side effects of uncertainties. The risk of swelling and scarring is very prominent if you expose your face directly to the sunlight. Therefore, wearing a wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses, and scarves is important when heading out. The harmful UV rays may also lead to inflammation and adverse bleeding.

    2. Stay covered while going out.

It is all okay to be without scarves or hats indoors, but take necessary measures when it is crucial to go out. Wear the bigger sunglasses that have polarized lenses with 100% UV protection. Moreover, scarves are an essential accessory to protect your incisions from direct exposure to UV rays.

    3. Wear sunscreen, always!

It is a healthy habit to wear sunscreen daily as part of your skincare regimen. But one must note that wearing sunscreen always is essential after facelift surgery. Wearing sunscreen early and often daily with SPF 30 or higher, as recommended by your plastic surgeon/cosmetologist, is inevitable once your incisions heal. Use the broad-spectrum SPF sunscreen, whether you are indoors or outdoors, to achieve the optimal benefits of your facelift surgery.

    4. Find a shady spot if you are outside.

If it is unavoidable, in your case, to be in the sun exposure for a particular length of time- think shade. Find a shady spot, and stay there to avoid the direct sun’s UV rays. However, be careful with those spots that catch the direct angle for sunlight.

The above-mentioned practical tips for maintaining your skin’s health and longevity of your facelift results must be followed post-surgery. In addition, incisions should flatten and get lighter with time with the right post-op care and safety measures.

  • Does a Tummy Tuck Remove Stretch Marks?

Does a Tummy Tuck Remove Stretch Marks?

    • Do you know two leading causes for requesting a tummy tuck surgery are pregnancy and significant weight loss?
    • Do you know tummy tuck surgery addresses stretch marks to some extent due to the involvement of excess skin excision as an additional benefit?
    • Do you know the prominent scar caused by tummy tuck surgery is often positioned under a bikini line so it can be perfectly hidden under underwear?
    • Do you know many people feel that a well-positioned scar looks better than the often-extensive stretch marks removed with the excess skin?

Tummy tuck surgery is the most sought-after cosmetic surgery in Bangalore, as many women often worry about stretch marks occurring in the aftermath of childbirth or significant weight loss.

During a tummy tuck surgery, Dr. Karishma Kagodu, MS, M CH., a board-certified plastic surgeon and head of Kaesthetics, Indiranagar, also contributed to Kinder Women’s Hospital, Whitefield, Bangalore, noted that some stretch marks get removed with a tummy tuck, as stretch marks happen to be located on the excess skin that is excised. However, a tummy tuck does not remove stretch marks outside that area. Therefore, the procedure only helps move or lower some stretch marks during surgery, but stubborn marks on your hips will remain post-surgery. So, you must follow patient post-op instructions, including scar care measures that your plastic surgeon discussed during the follow-up sessions.

    Stretch Marks and Tummy Tuck

A tummy tuck surgery aims to remove excess, loose skin, and fat deposits from the abdominal region while tightening the weakened or separated muscles. Abdominoplasty or tummy tuck, to some extent, remove stretch marks in the extra skin, as these skins are targeted to be removed during the operation. On the other hand, stubborn marks present outside of that area remain in their place, requested another excisional surgery. The excisional surgery involves cutting the skin containing stretch marks, and the procedure is performed in a specific situation, mainly when there is significant skin excess.

    Tummy Tuck for Stretch Marks

ASPS (American Society of plastic surgeons) stated that tummy tuck surgery addresses many of your problem stretch marks, as stretch marks between your bikini line and belly button can be alleviated with the surgery. In addition, the scars present outside of that area, such as hip scars, will be moved lower because the remaining skin is stretched down.

The Benefits of the Tummy Tuck Concerning Scar Management:

Patients concerned about scars must know that tummy tuck surgery also leaves some scars, like other surgery. But it is the positive aspect that scars typically fade with time, followed by the right post-op measures. Usually, scars are often positioned under the bikini line so they can be perfectly camouflaged.

Who are the Ideal candidates for Tummy Tuck Surgery:
    1. Those struggle with excess hanging skin and stubborn fat pocket deposits in the abdominal regions.
    2. Have stretched or separated abdominal wall muscles
    3. Patients are physically healthy and have no medical history of chronic illness or any severe medical conditions
    4. Do not smoke or are willing to follow the no smoking rule during pre-and-post surgery for a few months.
    5. You must be close to your ideal weight before receiving a tummy tuck.
    6. Have realistic goals for the procedure.

Note: If you are a new mother, plastic surgeons require you to wait at least a year after giving birth, as kid care during the recovery process can cause compromised healing.

  • How Do You Get Rid of Arm Fat Permanently?

How Do You Get Rid of Arm Fat Permanently?

    • Are you dealing with a shapeless arm with no contour due to loose, saggy skin and excess fat deposits in the upper arm?
    • Do you see after-weight loss effects with highly loose upper arm skin in your body?
    • Did you notice the aging effect and now a lack of silhouette limited your outfit options?
    • Did you know the benefits of an arm lift surgery are not just limited to cosmetic purposes but also address the medical concerns of restricted motion caused by excessive sagging?

Dr. Karishma Kagodu is a nationally recognized name in plastic and reconstruction surgery. Dr. Karishma Kagodu, MS, M CH., a board-certified plastic surgeon and medical specialist, guides her patients through every step of the arm lift procedure to ensure the best aesthetic outcomes possible.

Arm lift surgery, medically known as Brachioplasty performed to give you the sculpted arm contour by removing excess fat deposits and saggy, loose skin in the upper arm that may develop due to aging or significant weight loss.

Arm lift surgery in Bangalore is a very peculiar decision because the availability of quality care, certified plastic surgeons, and accredited clinics/centers help you reap the maximum benefits of the procedure at the budget-cost option. Usually, in Bangalore, the cost of arm lift surgery ranges between 90,000 to 1,75,000 INR, which is lesser than the cost applicable in New Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Kolkata. The direct influencing cost factors may include the location of the clinic, the surgeon’s expertise, applied technique, safety measures, and the extent of the problem. However, it is inevitable to attend an introductory consultation to know the actual price of brachioplasty based on your state of concern.

Note: Arm lift surgery is not a weight loss procedure and does not contribute to weight loss motive, but it helps remove around 1.5 pounds of fat to correct flabby arms and offer you the sculpted arm profile.

What is an Arm Lift Surgery?

Arm lift surgery, or brachioplasty, is a cosmetic surgery that helps improve the tone, contour, and definition of your upper arm by removing fat pocket deposits and flabby skin. You will achieve a toned and defined arm profile as the procedure tightens the loose skin, smoothing over the remaining skin and removing unwanted extra fat.

Usually, arm lift surgery is performed using liposuction to remove excess fat, alongside the extra skin being cut away to address the loose skin concerns. The arm lift procedure usually takes one to three hours, and intravenous sedation or general anesthesia is administered based on the extent of the procedure or chosen surgical method. During the procedure, your plastic surgeon makes an incision on the inside or back of your arm to remove excess fat from the arms. The amount of excess skin to be removed decides the pattern and length of the incision. Furthermore, the incisions are closed with surgical tape or stitches.

    Who is an Ideal Candidate?

Arm lift, or brachioplasty surgery is best for patients who are otherwise healthy or in good health with no active disease or severe, pre-existing medical status. In addition, the patients must have realistic expectations of the procedure’s outcome.

What are the Benefits of Arm Lift/ Brachioplasty Surgery?

    • You will have a more contoured, sculpted, and toned appearance on your upper arm.
    • You can flaunt your toned arm with different outfits, as you will feel more comfortable in sleeveless tops and swimsuits.
    • Brachioplasty helps ease motion and addresses the concerns caused by bat wings.

What are the Risks of Arm lift Surgery?

Every surgical procedure carries some risks or discomforts, and arm lift surgery is also not untouched. Like all surgeries, pain, and swelling are common and occur as a healing development to settle the effect of surgical procedures. Moreover, infections, bleeding, scarring, fluid build-up, fatty tissue death, and nerve or blood vessel damage may occur, effectively managed by the proper medications and post-op guidelines. Usually, the common side effects or discomforts post-surgery are considered healing development that will reduce within a few days and should not be considered severe concerns. Use cool compresses to reduce swelling and pillows to keep your arms elevated, which will also help blood circulation. In addition, it is advised to stay hydrated and take a healthy diet that helps promote easy recovery.

    Are the Results Permanent?

Yes, arm lift surgery gives long-lasting results if you follow a healthy lifestyle and weight. Yet, results can be distorted by weight change, aging, and lifestyle. However, it is instructed to follow your plastic surgeon’s advice pre-and-post procedure to achieve smooth healing following surgery. And the healthy post-op guidelines can help you enjoy a long-lasting effect.

  • Am I too old for Plastic Surgery?

Am I too old for Plastic Surgery?

    • According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), a study finds cosmetic procedures as safe for the elderly and the young.
    • Most often, patients in their 30s, 40s, or 50s seek plastic surgery’s help to achieve the desired transformation.
    • Patients over 65 can safely undergo plastic/cosmetic surgery with the same complication rate as younger patients.
    • The risks or side effects are almost negligible when a board-certified plastic surgeon performs plastic/cosmetic surgeries.

Plastic surgeries are a major transforming decision and are considered okay with younger or middle-aged people at first thought. But the reality is more evident and prevalent even with older patients above 65 or below 80s. Plastic surgery is the best option for everyone seeking a beautiful transformation in their body or face. However, getting worried about age or disfigurement is irrelevant in today.

Dr. Karishma Kagodu, MS, M CH., a board-certified plastic surgeon based in Bangalore and an active member of leading ISAPS (International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons), APSI (Association of Plastic Surgeons of India), IAAPS (Indian Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery), and RSE (Rhinoplasty Society of Europe) noted that there is no age bar for plastic surgeries. I have operated on many patients, healthy 65-70-year-olds seeking breast augmentation, body lift, and overall body contouring. And, this is good news that ASPS declared that plastic surgery procedures are just as safe for the elderly as for young ones.

What you must Consider Before Surgery?

Even though age is not an obstacle for plastic surgery, it requires extreme introspection while planning the procedure to achieve the best results possible. Therefore, plastic cosmetic surgeries should be taken with seriousness and maturity when it comes to finding the best plastic surgeon, accredited clinic/hospital, safety measures, and result-proven techniques. However, research and development are prerequisites to making the right decision at the right time.

Key points to be considered while planning a plastic/cosmetic surgery are discussed below:

    1. Medical status: If you are considering plastic cosmetic surgery, you must be physically healthy with no serious record of chronic illness, autoimmune disorder, or allergies. You should have a medical clearance report concerning the blood tests, blood sugar, blood pressure, etc., to give clearance on board for plastic surgeries. If you have any current or previous medical conditions, your surgeon will discuss whether they will affect your candidacy or the procedure’s efficacy. However, it is inevitable to attend an introductory consultation before proceeding with any decision.
    2. Realistic expectations: When someone wants to undergo plastic surgery, they must be mentally prepared for a transformation, as the procedure helps achieve a new you in your profile. However, it is equally essential that you have realistic expectations with the surgery and have no unrealistic demands for the surgery. Nothing can be done overnight, as every procedure goes through a journey of pre-and-post-op preparation, recovery, healing, and a timeline for achieving the results. It would help if you had a realistic goal based on education, what the procedure is designed for, and what they can accomplish from surgery.
    3. One-on-one consultation: Yes, the in-person consultation with your plastic surgeon is mandatory to know whether you are the right fit for the procedure. This is the state where it is examined whether your physical health allows you to proceed with the transformation journey or requires evaluation with respect to time, health, or extent of the issue. Dr. Karishma Kagodu can thoroughly evaluate your situation and then only chalk out the best option.

It is never too late for plastic surgery. Are you interested in body contouring or facial rejuvenation, or are you more inclined towards the non-surgical options for facial ageing, or may you have the desire to achieve the 360-body lift? Or do you want younger, more lifted breasts with breast lift surgery? Every surgical and non-surgical cosmetic treatment option is available at Dr. Karishma Aesthetics. • Top Tips to be Considered while Choosing Cosmetic Surgery?

Top Tips to be Considered while Choosing Cosmetic Surgery?

    • Finding an experienced, credentialed plastic surgeon should be your first and foremost important step while choosing cosmetic surgery.
    • It would help if you had realistic expectations with the procedure, as nothing can be achieved overnight; it takes healing time.
    • An educated consultation is indispensable to decide whether surgery is the right option for you concerning your medical health, physiological and anatomical status, and, most important, your problem status.
    • Timing is crucial in deciding cosmetic procedures, as waiting is required to achieve optimal outcomes, especially when considering the tuck, lift, or contouring procedures.

Cosmetic surgery offers a subtle solution to compromised facial harmony or body silhouette. Cosmetic surgery should always result in changing your life for the better, and giving importance to contouring surgeries is undoubtedly on the top because achieving an appealing figure or hour-glass profile is a dream for everyone, says Dr. Karishma Kagodu, MS, MCH, a board-certified celebrity plastic surgeon.

Nowadays, the top body contouring 360-degree procedures, like circumferential abdominoplasty and mommy makeover that may include breast augmentation, breast lift, breast reduction, and Brazilian butt lifts, are not just reserved for Hollywood A-listers. Still, common people can also avail the benefits of looks transformation or makeover with cosmetic procedures.

Men and women alike are going under the knife to fix sagging jowls, crow’s feet, bat wings, love handles, or cottage cheese thighs because cosmetic surgeries have never been hotter, and not just among the Cineworld celebrities.

Here, Dr. Karishma’s Top tips for potential cosmetic-surgery patients to consider are briefed below:

    1. Check your plastic surgeon’s qualifications: The first and foremost task while considering cosmetic plastic surgery is checking and evaluating the chosen plastic surgeon’s credibility with respect to their earned active memberships, hands-on practices, performed successful surgeries, online reviews and ‘after-and-before photographs of the past patients, and the most important the required qualification and training perform the specific cosmetic surgical procedures. Internal medicine doctors, maxillofacial surgeons, gynecologists, and even dentists performing cosmetic procedures, which is the grey part of the industry. However, you must be more conscious, wise, and conscientious while choosing your plastic surgeon and checking board certification is a must.

Note: Your plastic surgeon must be board-certified, and they should have a MBBS degree, followed by General surgery and super speciality in MCH Plastic surgery to perform the specific procedures.

    1. You should have realistic expectations: You go under the knife once you get your medical clearance and other tests concerning your candidacy to receive the plastic surgery. And one must note that every surgical procedure involves some risks or discomforts as a part of their healing development. However, you are expected to follow the pre-and-post op guidelines as suggested by your plastic surgeon. Sometimes, when a candidate is not fit for surgery, they are recommended for non-surgical options for contouring or skincare treatments. Therefore, it is indispensable for a patient to have realistic expectations with the surgery because medical-proven procedures focus on offering the best aesthetic outcomes possible. Thus, your expectations with surgery should be realistic, as every procedure involves some discomforts like pain, swelling, redness, bruising, and limitations of activities during the healing period. However, you are required to follow the post-op guidelines, as the advantages always outweigh the side effects of surgery.
    2. Evaluate the surgical facility: It is an inevitable task to evaluate surgical facilities before selecting them for your surgical process. One must choose an accredited hospital or cosmetic surgery centre for their procedure, as these facilities ensure a safe and hassle-free surgical experience without the risks of infections or misshapen. The clinic must have a license certificate and high-end safety standards to perform the surgical procedures in a hygienic environment. The availability of high-end technologies or equipment sets the surgical centre apart from other common healthcare centres and plays a significant role in meeting the desired outcomes.
    3. Consider the timing: Yes, timing is crucial while you are considering plastic surgery. Firstly, you have to look up your schedule and does it allow you to invest time for proper healing. Secondly, suppose you are considering a facial procedure (such as rhinoplasty or nose job) or a body contouring surgery, such as a mommy makeover, i.e., breast augmentation, breast lift, 360-degree abdominoplasty, Brazilian butt lift, etcetera. In that case, waiting until you have completed your family is a prerequisite. One must note that having babies, pregnancy, and breastfeeding can dramatically change a woman’s body; however, it is better to wait until you have met your family goal to reap the utmost benefits of plastic cosmetic surgery.
    4. Cosmetic surgeries are not just for women

Cosmetic surgeries are for MEN & WOMEN. • Why Do You Have to Fast Before Surgery?

Why Do You Have to Fast Before Surgery?

    • Do you know that fasting for at least 8-12 hours prior to plastic cosmetic surgery is recommended by surgeons to avoid the risks of vomiting and lung damage?
    • Do you know that usually, before administrating general anaesthesia, you will not be allowed anything to eat or drink?
    • Do you know that amount of time you have to go without food or liquid before your surgery is based on the extent and the type of procedure employed?
    • Do you know that even chewing gum, either regular or nicotine, is strictly avoidable during fasting?

Every surgical procedure carries some restrictions beforehand, and plastic cosmetic surgery is also not untouched. Whether the procedure is extensive or minor, you are expected to follow all the instructions given by your plastic surgeon.

Before having any plastic cosmetic surgery, it’s likely that you will be given either general or local anaesthesia. Local anaesthesia numbs the targeted areas being treated, resulting in a painless procedure.

On the other hand, an extensive procedure like a tummy tuck, rhinoplasty/ nose job, facelift, or mommy makeover requires general anaesthesia to be administered, making you unconscious so you cannot feel anything. So, it requires following the surgical rituals beforehand to have a hassle-free surgical experience, stated Dr. Karishma Kagodu, MS, M CH., a board-certified celebrity plastic cosmetic surgeon.

Why is fasting important before surgery?

When you are scheduled to have plastic cosmetic surgery, you will be asked to fast for 8-12 hours before.

This is because when the anaesthesia is administered, your body’s reflexes are temporarily stopped. Therefore, eating food or drinking any liquid before surgery can cause serious complications, as the body’s reflexes do not respond to how they respond before anaesthesia. However, vomiting, bringing up food into your throat, or even breathing complications my possible when you do not follow the fasting ritual for at least 8-12 hours beforehand. Thus, fasting is a safety measure as pre-op care before surgery.

Note: Food can get into your lungs due to the anaesthesia effect during the procedure, affecting your respiratory process and causing damage to your lungs. However, say yes to fasting before having your surgery, and the time length without having food or liquid will be discussed during your introductory consultation with your plastic surgeon.

Having food or liquid can cause risks during the procedure.

If your stomach is full during the surgery, significantly when a general anaesthetic is administered, the contents will move up the oesophagus and enter the lungs. The consequences can be damaged lungs and breathing difficulty, a risky situation during the surgical job.

You may be told to avoid certain fluids, but clear fluids (water) are usually recommended.

You are not allowed to drink anything before surgery to avoid the risks of lung damage. Certain fluids, such as tea, coffee, coke, or milk, should be strictly avoidable to enjoy a hassle-free surgical experience. Clear fluid, such as water, is usually recommended.

Measure to opt for specific medical conditions.

Suppose you have diabetes, have certain medical conditions such as autoimmune dysfunctions or genetic disorders, or are taking any stress pills or steroids. In that case, it is mandatory to inform your plastic surgeon beforehand. You should also let them know if you are allergic to certain medicines.

    Local anaesthetic, pre-op measure:

If local anaesthesia is administered for your surgery, you should be allowed to eat and drink normally. But it is inevitable to follow the fasting rule beforehand if the procedure involves your digestive system or bladder.

Follow all the instructions as given by your plastic surgeon.

It is always wise to follow all the pre- and post-op instructions given by the anaesthetist and plastic cosmetic surgeon. Please take note of pre-and post-op care and follow them to enjoy the best experience of your procedure, as an easy procedure helps achieve smooth recovery, so that the results would be great.

  • Post-op Tummy tuck Scarring Questions

    Post-op Tummy tuck Scarring Questions

    • Do you know that all cosmetic or reconstructive plastic surgery leaves some extent of visible scars and requires scar care management?
    • Do you know that intensity of scars in terms of shape, size, and color will vary with time and may fade if you follow the right post-op measure?
    • Do you know that your skin texture, quality, genetics, healing capacities, the recovery process, and other associated factors to your anatomy will influence scar visibility post-op surgery?
    • Do you know that scars typically lie in the lower abdomen after a tummy tuck surgery?

There are a thousand questions, doubts, and myths about cosmetic or reconstructive plastic surgery you want to ask your plastic surgeon, especially when the procedure is a tummy tuck surgery. Therefore, asking questions and getting expert answers is always a good idea, as it helps decide the procedure to achieve the utmost benefits and avail the advantages of specific post-op care.

Dr. Karishma Kagodu, MS, M CH., a board-certified celebrity plastic surgeon and Managing Director of Kaesthetics, shares her thoughts on post-op tummy tuck scarring to enhance our knowledge about abdominoplasty surgery. Dr. Karishma often asked about post-op care related to tummy tucks. She replied to thousands and thousands of questions during the in-person consultation of her patients at Dr. Karishma Aesthetics and Kinder Women’s Hospital, Whitefield, Bangalore.

If you are considering a tummy tuck/abdominoplasty, it is obvious to think about post-op care, instructions, and the recovery process. Much has been discussed about the healing instructions and how to manage post-op side effects.

Here, Dr. Karishma focuses on the issue of post-op scarring, and if you have any doubts can be cleared by the following points:

    1. What Type of Scarring to Expect After A Tummy Tuck

First, tummy tuck scars may vary in shape, size, and how much they fade over time. Since every patient is different and requires a tailor-made treatment plan, the post-op recovery, especially the concern of scar, would vary from patient to patient. Therefore, your healing capacity, the recovery process, skin texture, genetics, and other associated factors will influence the intensity/visibility of your scar. But, you will have a post-op scar that runs from one hipbone to the other. The plus point of the procedure is that the scar can be perfectly camouflaged below the bikini line or will fade considerably over time. Yes, a tummy tuck leaves scarring, but the benefits of a tight, contoured, and flat abdomen outweigh the post-op effects. Thus, it is inevitable to ask questions with your plastic surgeon about the type, length, and pattern of the incisions to get an idea about post-op scarring and its management. Scar care management with topical solutions is usually recommended after your tummy tuck surgery. Regardless of the type and length, Dr. Karishma will make the incisions low enough to be hidden under a bikini or undergarments.

In some cases, when a full tummy tuck is performed, an incision is made around the belly button to retain its anchor to underlying tissue and blood vessels. This incision allows the plastic surgeon to move tissue around the belly button so the muscle and skin are tighter and flatter. As a result, scars are noticeable when you don’t wear a one-piece or high-rise bikini. Fortunately, this scar fades nicely over time, and most people never notice it.

    2. Where will my tummy tuck scar be located?

The post-op tummy tuck scars may be located in the following areas:

    • Usually, in your lower abdomen area, above your pubis, and below your belly button.
    • The scar may run potentially zigzagged rather than straight across your lower abdomen and positioned below your belt line or waistline.
    • You may also have a vertical scar, from your pubis area to your navel location, depending on the type of tummy tuck surgery you are recommended.

    3. How long will the scar be after a Tummy Tuck procedure?

A month after your abdominoplasty, your post-op scar will likely appear pink, brown, or dark red, depending on your skin type and texture. The visibility of the scar as it needs to be to fade to achieve a full recovery and optimal outcomes. Of course, the scar healing process would vary from one patient to another based on their anatomical status, genetics, and type of tummy tuck surgery employed. The scar fades gradually over time, followed by post-op measures, and a year after your procedure, the scarring will likely be much less noticeable.

    4. How should you Manage Your Tummy Tuck Scarring?

The scar removal process may take up to a year to fade scarring much less noticeable. As we may know, it is a fundamental process of the skin to produce collagen in response to healing wounds or cut, and surgical injuries/incisions are also counted as a wound. But the extent of wounding here is much greater than the usual cuts. However, skin requires more collages to respond ideally against surgical incisions. Over the first few weeks, the first round of collagen breaks down and is replaced by strands that are much more organized. This is when the scar lightens more significantly, and its texture smooths.

Some key instructions that should be followed post-op to support scar healing are jotted down below:

    • Drink plenty of water to facilitate tissue repair and faster healing.
    • Get plenty of sleep to promote a speedy recovery.
    • Eat healthy, whole foods enriched with proteins, vitamins, antioxidants, and minerals that help accelerate tissue repair and wound healing.
    • Your plastic surgeon may recommend scar removal creams, silicon sheets, or laser treatments depending on your type of surgery and the intensity of scarring you notice.

  • Female-to-Male | FTM Top Surgery allows Trans-men to Get ready for Beach Season

Female-to-Male | FTM Top Surgery allows Trans-men to Get ready for Beach Season

    • Do you know many trans-men dealing with gender dysphoria?
    • Do you know that top surgery (FTM) is only allowed by board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeons specializing in gender-affirming procedures?
    • Do you know the outlook after FTM surgery is excellent, and the recovery process may take a few months for the pain and scars to fade?
    • Do you know that most trans-men undergoing FTM surgeries are 18 or older, but younger ones can also consider if their legal guardians and mental health professionals consent that top surgery is appropriate?

    What is FTM’s top Surgery?

Breast tissue is a source of gender dysphoria for trans-men once they start experiencing and noticing them, usually after the commencement of testosterone-replacement therapy. Exogenous testosterone is used in transgender men to induce virilization and suppress feminizing characteristics. After the therapy, as a result, trans-men will notice several changes in their bodies, including a deepening of the voice, the growth of body hair, and an increase in muscle mass. However, all these masculine changes occur after the hormone therapy, but unfortunately, no changes take place in the breast’s size and appearance. Thus, it is recommended to undergo FTM top surgery, i.e., chest masculinization surgery helps achieve the masculine chest by removing enlarged breast tissues, excess fat, and skin and repositioning the nipples to create a natural-looking flat chest.

Female-to-male or FTM top surgery, also called chest masculinization surgery, is a popular procedure at Kaesthetics, Bangalore, headed by Dr. Karishma Kagodu, MS., M CH., a board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon. In the word of Dr. Karishma, “trans-men experience discord due to the difference between their self-identified gender and biological sex. Trans-men are individuals who were assigned female at birth but identify as men. Therefore, it is inevitable to perform FTM surgery to restore their masculinity in terms of their body characteristics. And FTM (Female-to-male) top surgery, chest masculinization is one of them.”

Note: There are many techniques available to perform chest masculinization surgery, and selecting a specific is solely based on the amount of breast tissue, the presence of excess skin, the quality of the skin tone, the size of the nipple, and areola, the desire for nipple sensation, and the patient’s preferences all contributing to the decision on which technique is employed.

What happens during FTM top surgery?

The female-to-male (FTM) top surgery removes both breasts with a double mastectomy. Excess skin and enlarged breast tissue near your breasts and fat are excised. Furthermore, the nipple and areola (dark-colored skin surrounding the nipple) were repositioned, making other changes to create a natural, flat chest.

What to expect after top surgery?

Like other surgical procedures, you can expect physical restrictions following the surgery for the first few weeks to achieve a smooth healing experience. Since FTM top surgery is an outpatient procedure, most patients require three-to-four weeks before they are cleared to resume work. Most trans-men are able to work out without restrictions by eight weeks after their procedure. As far as complications are concerned, it depends on the type of procedure and may include bleeding, infections, loss of nipple sensation, scarring, or uneven nipples which sometimes require revision surgery, or the chances of discomfort are very minimal with the expert hands of a plastic surgeon. One must note that side effects, such as bleeding and infections, are a part of the healing response that settles down once you complete the recovery period.

What type of surgeon performs this procedure?

Only board-certified plastic and reconstruction surgeons specializing in gender-affirming procedures can perform FTM top surgery. An experienced plastic surgeon with a significant number of successful cases done before can give you the best results possible.

Improved confidence and a sense of self-esteem with one’s gender identity:

Top FTM or chest masculinization surgery restores self-confidence and self-esteem. It enhances masculine appearance in trans-men, as they can flaunt their bare chest in the swimming pool or go shirtless in the gym and focus more on improving their washboard abs. Even though the healing period transgresses over the first several months, trans-men grow accustomed to the new chest contour. Having a masculine chest after FTM surgery allows trans-men to identify more closely with their gender identity, improves confidence, and can help alleviate gender dysphoria.
