4 Ways To Prep Your Skin For Winter To Summer Transition
Your skincare in the winter season needs to go as you welcome summer. Here’s a few factors to consider for your summer skincare regime.
Applying a serum and letting your skin drink it up is comforting for a whole lot of people, doesn’t it? A skincare regime not only nourishes the skin but also calms us down, and energizes our skin appearance at the same time. However, your current regime may not be the right fit for summer skincare.
The change in seasons also changes the needs of your skin. While winter’s cold breeze may need you to slather up a thick moisturizer, summer expects a lightweight product. The consistency and the formula of each skincare element are different and should fit the seasonal needs of your skin.
Dr Karishma Kagodu, Cosmetologist and a Plastic Surgeon, spoke to HealthShots about the importance of updating your summer skincare routine.
“Skincare is hard and it is even harder during weather change to take care of your skin. It is of the utmost importance to have a skincare routine in order to maintain healthy and supple skin. Weather transitions also mandate a change in skincare routine and the products one must use on a regular basis. Winter tends to dry skin out, however, having said that it is also important to understand your skin type before opting for a skin treatment and skin care regime,” says Sr Kagodu, who is also the founder and managing director of Dr. Karishma’s Aesthetics.
Here are 4 ways to switch to your summer skincare:
1. Moisturize
Moisturizing is the key when it comes to your skin health. It is imperative to drink water and hydrate yourself more during the summer. Also, invest in the right moisturizer according to your skin type.
“Having an understanding of your skin type will be helpful in optimizing your regime. This will guarantee giving you perfectly soft and supple skin with a natural glow. Hydration is a must regardless of weather specific regimes. Water is extremely important in ensuring the health of your skin and also beneficial to your general well being,” says Dr Kagodu.
2. SPF
As summers can be hot and sticky, always having a sunscreen with the appropriate SPF above 40 is a good step. Not to forget, choose the Sunscreen based on skin type.
“Pick a gel-based, light matte sunscreen for oily and acne prone skin. However, women with normal to dry skin may use a cream-based sunscreen. This will help combat skin tanning and protect your skin against harmful UV rays.” She further added.
3. Exfoliating
Using hydrating moisturizers, face masks and exfoliating well helps in keeping your pores clean which in turn gives your skin new life. Dr Kagodu suggests opting for silk peels and carbon peels once in a while. It will nourish your skin holistically and make it easy to maintain during the scorching heat.
4. Diet and workout
A good diet and exercise routine is also known to remove years off one’s skin and make it look radiant and fresh. Having a clean diet, exercising and drinking plenty of water not only detoxes your skin but also keeps you looking youthful and fresh.
Dr Kagodu says “Multivitamins in your diet also help in boosting your immune system and ultimately making your skin, hair and nails healthier.”
Skincare may be subjective, but these tips for your summer skincare may come in handy as you shed that layer of winter clothing.
