Buffalo Hump Liposuction at Kaesthetics

What is a Buffalo Hump?

Buffalo hump is an unwanted fat deposition on the back of your lower neck and between the shoulders that can make you feel self-conscious, which can cause difficulty sleeping, a challenged back posture, as well as an unpleasant look.

A back hump could develop due to a variety of reasons ranging from poor lifestyle to chronic illness/ certain medications to hereditary factors or hormonal imbalances. It is difficult to address buffalo hump with diet and strenuous exercise. However, a cosmetic procedure called liposuction surgery is typically used to remove excess, hard, and fibrous fat.

Dr. Karishma Kagodu utilizes advanced liposuction techniques to effectively reduce the buffalo hump, providing you with a sculpted back profile with very minimal downtime. The advanced liposuction technique, VASER (Vibration amplification of sound energy at Resonance), selectively targets fat cells, using ultrasound waves to liquefy fat cells first so that they can be easily removed, resulting in less blood loss, minimal scarring, and bruising. VASER, also called LipoSculpting, provides a toned, sculpted body contour with moderate skin tightening benefits. The optimal results can be achieved because VASER makes the fat cells easier to remove (involving liquefication before extraction) via the cannula and simultaneously accelerates collagen production to help tighten skin and sculpt the body.

Note: A buffalo hump is not necessarily a medical concern, but it may develop due to a certain medical condition or medication that must be discussed during the introductory consultation with your plastic surgeon.

If you are developing a buffalo hump, the following symptoms can be experienced:

The accumulated fat at the base of your neck is harder than fat on other body parts.

Buffalo hump is also a symptom of Cushing’s syndrome. However, some of the symptoms can be experienced in the following form:

·       A fatty lump between the shoulders.

·       Weight gain around the stubborn body areas, such as the abdomen, chest, face, and back of the neck.

·       Stretch marks on the stomach, hips, thighs, breasts, and underarms.

·       Thin and fragile skin that bruises easily and heals poorly

·       Excessive hair growth on the face, neck, chest, abdomen, breasts, and thighs.

·       Other symptoms may include high blood pressure, diabetes, irregular menstrual cycles, excessive thirst, and mood changes.

Note: Cushing’s syndrome is rare when your body develops too much cortisol either on its own or due to certain medications, i.e., corticosteroids.

Buffalo Hump Removal Liposuction Techniques in Bangalore:

Buffalo hump caused by obesity or excess weight gain can be addressed effectively with liposuction. Since buffalo hump fat is hard and fibrous, cutting-edge liposuction techniques, such as VASER, Power-assisted, or LASER liposuction, are employed to address the back hump.

Ultrasound-assisted/ VASER Liposuction: It uses ultrasound waves to break out fat cells first, and then unwanted fat is eliminated via suction. VASER is a minimally invasive technique, which gives desired sculpting with minimal healing time, giving the best contouring effect. Moreover, VASER liposuction also helps reduce cellulite.

LASER Liposuction: The expert plastic surgeon uses laser light to heat and liquefy the fat cells before elimination. Laser is a good option to remove small volumes of fat from the localized body areas.

Power-assisted Liposuction: PAL (Power-assisted liposuction) is the up-to-date technique in 2024. PAL incorporates mechanical assistance for fat elimination. The power cannula employed in PAL facilitates smoother and more efficient fat extraction. Power-assisted liposuction is the best option for back hump removal because it not just helps reduce surgeon’s fatigue but also minimizes operative time. Since PAL causes minimal trauma to surrounding tissue during the fat extraction process, resulting in less post-op discomfort and faster recovery, revolutionizing the traditional liposuction techniques.

What makes you a good candidate for buffalo hump removal surgery requires an introductory consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon who is specialized in liposuction procedures. Dr. Karishma adds that if a buffalo hump is done by someone who knows how to do liposuction with an advanced technique, you can achieve the best contouring effect. A plastic surgeon must be proficient in anatomy; everything is over the muscle.
