Does mobile phone accelerate ageing? How is its light making the face ugly?
Everyone has a mobile phone today. Young children are watching cartoons on it while adults keep scrolling on social media. According to the 2022 data of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, 120 crore people use mobile phones in India, out of which 60 crore have smartphones. But do you know that the phone is making you age prematurely? It has been proved in many studies that mobile phones cause aging faster. A study by Oregon State University in America has also proved this.
Mobile light damages the skin
Dr. Ruben Bhasin Pasi, a dermatologist at CK Birla Hospital, Gurugram, says that aging is happening rapidly these days due to electronic devices like mobile. The range of blue light of mobile is 400 to 500 nanometers. When this light remains in contact with the skin for a long time, it damages its barrier. This is the reason why people are becoming victims of aging at a young age.
The color of the skin starts changing
Blue light also causes hyper pigmentation. A chemical called melanin regulates our skin. People who produce less of this chemical have a fair skin complexion but people who produce more of it have dark skin. Blue light is an energy that deepens pigmentation. Due to this, many times black or brown spots start appearing on people's faces. This is called photo aging.
Aging can be slowed down with sunscreen and blue light filters
Skin starts getting dry
Dr. Ruben Bhasin Pasi says that the blue light of the mobile affects the skin in the middle of the face the most. Due to this the skin type starts changing and the face starts getting dry. There are many patients who complain that earlier their skin was oily and now it has become dry. Actually blue light damages all the four layers of the epidermis of the skin due to which the skin starts losing collagen and elasticity and the face starts looking dull and dry.
Apply sunscreen every 3 hours
The blue light of the mobile phone affects the skin just like the ultraviolet rays of the sun. To avoid this, it is necessary to apply sunscreen 3 times a day. Sunscreen should be applied for the entire 12 months. According to Dr. Ruben Bhasin Pasi, sunscreen is as important as eating or drinking water. You may stay at home but definitely apply sunscreen. It protects the skin not only from blue light but also from LED light and the heat of gas while working on the stove. Sunscreen is the best for skin protection in every way along with sun protection. It slows down the ageing process.
Anti-aging products with sunscreen will give results
Sunscreen with SPF 15 or SPF 30++ is good for Indian skin tone. If a person is applying anti-aging products, then their effect is not visible without sunscreen. Therefore, apply sunscreen along with anti-aging products because these products only keep the skin hydrated and increase collagen but sunscreen is a protective shield for the skin.
First of all, lines and
wrinkles appear under the eyes. Everyone gets them after a certain age but nowadays, ageing starts at the age of 25. Using mobile for a long time causes fine lines to appear under the eyes. Sagging skin, marionette lines, laugh lines also start appearing on the face of some people. To avoid ageing, it is important to keep the skin hydrated and use the mobile for a limited time. Dr. Ruben Bhasin Pasi says that anti-ageing measures should be started at the age of 25 on the advice of the doctor.
Apply blue light filter and change lifestyle
Dr. Karishma Kagodu, Plastic and Cosmetic Surgeon at Dr. Karishma Aesthetics Clinic, Bangalore believes that blue light is not as harmful as UV range but being exposed to blue light for a long time is also not good for the skin. The UV A rays of the sun damage the skin from inside and cause wrinkles while UVB rays damage the outer layer of the skin, which increases the risk of skin cancer. Blue light is not so dangerous for the skin but some studies have proved that it can darken the skin tone. To avoid the blue light of mobile, it is necessary to use blue light filter along with sunscreen. This can delay aging to a great extent. At the same time, many other reasons are also responsible for aging such as smoking, eating junk food, not exercising, stress and not getting enough sleep. Therefore, change in lifestyle is also necessary.
Oxidation starts happening in the body
Every human being has a body clock which is called circadian rhythm. This biological clock starts with the rays of the sun and runs for 24 hours. Accordingly, hormones are also released in the body. At night, a hormone called melatonin is released from the body which induces sleep. When the blue light of the mobile falls on the face, the circadian rhythm of the body gets disturbed due to which sleep is less and melatonin is released less. This leads to more oxidation in the body which appears as dryness on the face and the face looks swollen. This also causes faster ageing.
