Hair Fall? Strictly Steer Clear From These Hair Products

Hair Fall? Strictly Steer Clear From These Hair Products

A good hair day boosts our confidence and mood to an extent. However, hair problems seldom leave us alone. While certain hair products guarantee our mane to look fuller and stronger, overusing them may backfire instead. The chemical damage and over-processing of hair are causes of hair fall that is triggered by these products.

Long-term use of these hair products may make your hair look brittle and dry over time. They coat the hair strands which makes them look stiff and frayed. Certain hair problems like split ends, dandruff, dry hair, and hair fall are often caused by the harmful components in hair products.

To explain more about it, Dr Karishma Kagodu, cosmetologist and plastic surgeon spoke to HealthShots about the underlying causes of hair fall and their correlation with hair products.

Here are few products that become causes of hair fall:

1. Caffeine Products:

Avoid thickening shampoos containing coffee. Caffeine limits blood flow. “We need to support hair growth by increasing blood flow to the hair roots. Therefore, using products with caffeine may be detrimental for your hair health” says Dr Kagodu, who is the founder and managing director of Dr Karishma’s Aesthetics.

2. Sulfur or Sulfates

If your hair is susceptible to damage, you need to avoid products with sulfur or sulfates. Shampoos that contain sulfur, strips the oils from your scalp, causing hair to dry and break out. “The harsh sulfates in shampoos irritate the scalp and result in breakdown of your hair cuticle and shaft by decreasing the hair protein content,” says Dr Kagodu.

3. Ammonia

Most hair colours are loaded with ammonia. Ammonia can raise the PH level of hair to 10-10.5. This shift in the pH level weakens the hair shaft by damaging the protein within leading to shedding and breakage of hair.

4. Parabens

Parabens in hair products cause drying of hair, scalp irritation, hair loss and fading of your hair color. They put our hair tresses in a dry and frizzy condition, creating lack of nutrition for hair follicles leading to scalp deterioration.

5. Overuse of oil

Overuse of scalp oils and keeping oils for long periods can clog the scalp pores, which in turn restricts the scalp from breathing, leading to an increase in scalp inflammation. Avoid oiling too often and do not keep them on for long. Oils are best suggested to stay for 20-30 minutes and should be applied on hair length and tips rather than scalp.

So, ladies, it is important to read the ingredient labels on your hair products before putting them in the cart. This will help prevent these causes of hair fall and damage from further harming your pretty locks.
